Stigma in the Borderlands (The Outcasts & Smugglers)

The Bias: "The high courts are empires of tyrants; the rigid cannot be trusted."

Down in Dusk-Hollow and the Flotsam Bazaar, the culture is tight-knit, fiercely independent, and born out of sheer survival necessity. They are deeply suspicious of outsiders from both the High Legalists and the Pale Court.

  • The Target — Pure-Bloods & Aristocrats: If your party contains high-ranking Elven nobles, Gnomish line-editors, or high winter-court sirens, the Buoyant Congregation will treat them with immediate, aggressive paranoia. They assume anyone with a fancy title or a complex legal vocabulary is an undercover auditor sent to extradite refugees or a spy planning to report their Paradox-Ink smuggling rings.

  • The Social Reality: In these towns, wearing fine silk mail or speaking in a hyper-formal, metred whisper will get you completely freeze-framed. Innkeepers will double the price of a room—demanding your best memories or your most embarrassing secrets—just to offset the "bureaucratic contamination" you're bringing into their establishment.
