The High Courts: Elves & Gnomes

"The Matrimonial Ledger vs. The Code Patch"

For the high society of Lumina Juris and Scriptorium-on-the-Hill, marriage is treated like a high-level corporate merger or a delicate patch to a software system. Because a messy, emotionally volatile divorce could physically crash a floating pearl-stone spire, relationships are handled with clinical, terrifying precision.

  • The Elven Houses (The Ledger): Elves do not say "I do." They sign a hyper-complex contract drafted by the Court of the Silver Quill. To ensure stability, the couple undergoes a ritual where they willingly extract their capacity to feel romantic attraction to anyone else into a shared glass orb. If a partner commits infidelity, the contract is broken: the orb turns black, the architecture of their estate physically cracks, and the Syllable Guard arrests them for Environmental Vagrancy.

  • The Gnomes (The Balance Sheets): Gnomish Lexicographers view marriage as data optimization. They choose partners based on emotional compatibility graphs tracked by the Grammar-Engines. Their weddings take place in the quartz cathedrals of Scriptorium-on-the-Hill, where they swap intricate clockwork rings that click into place only when both partners' pulse and emotional frequency are in perfect harmony.
