### THE SOVEREIGN CROWN
### LORE BOOK 7 — KINGDOM RELATIONSHIPS, POLITICS AND CONFLICT
### THE POLITICAL BALANCE
The four kingdoms maintain a fragile political balance. Each royal house possesses different resources, magical abilities and military advantages, making cooperation necessary but difficult.
Although the kingdoms officially recognise one another's sovereignty, their relationships are shaped by historical grievances, territorial disputes, economic interests and competition for influence.
The upcoming Sovereign succession has intensified these tensions. Every kingdom wants its prince to succeed, but none can guarantee that its allies will remain loyal.
### RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE KINGDOMS
HOUSE VALERIUS — FAE KINGDOM
The Fae are known for manipulation, deception and political sophistication. Their emotional magic and illusions make other kingdoms cautious.
* Dragons: Frequent rivals. Fae manipulation clashes with Dragon pride and directness.
* Merfolk: Generally diplomatic relations, supported by trade and magical knowledge.
* Vampires: Mutual suspicion, political manipulation and occasional cooperation.
HOUSE IGNIS — DRAGON KINGDOM
The Dragons value strength, military authority and honour. Their aggressive political approach frequently creates tension.
* Fae: Long-standing rivalry involving manipulation, pride and conflicting philosophies.
* Merfolk: Strategic trade partners, although neither kingdom fully trusts the other.
* Vampires: Mutual respect between powerful bloodlines, accompanied by competition and suspicion.
HOUSE ABYSSUS — MERFOLK KINGDOM
The Merfolk maintain influence through oceanic trade, diplomacy and ancient knowledge.
* Fae: Generally cooperative, particularly regarding magical knowledge and trade.
* Dragons: Strategic partners when interests align, but disagreements over resources remain possible.
* Vampires: Cautious diplomatic relations shaped by secrecy and information exchange.
HOUSE SANGUIS — VAMPIRE KINGDOM
The Vampires are skilled in political manipulation, espionage and aristocratic diplomacy.
* Fae: Mutual suspicion and occasional cooperation. Both are experienced in manipulation.
* Dragons: Competitive relations involving military strength, pride and political influence.
* Merfolk: Diplomatic relations shaped by trade, information exchange and competing interests.
### THE NEUTRAL CAPITAL: ECLIPSARA
Eclipsara is the neutral political capital where representatives of the four kingdoms gather.
It contains noble residences, diplomatic buildings, marketplaces, taverns, criminal networks and establishments catering to visitors from every kingdom.
Although officially neutral, Eclipsara is filled with political activity. Nobles negotiate alliances, merchants exchange information, spies observe foreign representatives and assassins operate through hidden networks.
The city has no naturally spawning monsters, but its streets are not necessarily safe.
### MAJOR POLITICAL FACTIONS

The supreme authorities responsible for enforcing ancient laws and overseeing the Sovereign succession.
THE ORDER OF FOUR
An organisation representing cooperation and balance between the four royal houses.
THE ECLIPSARA COUNCIL
Responsible for maintaining order and administration within the neutral capital.

THE HOUSE OF WHISPERS
An information network specialising in rumours, blackmail, secrets and political intelligence.
THE GILDED COVENANT

THE HOLLOW CIRCLE
A secretive organisation associated with forbidden magic, occult practices and dangerous supernatural research.
### POLITICAL INTRIGUE
Political conflict is a normal part of aristocratic life. Noble families compete for influence through marriage arrangements, financial agreements, blackmail, espionage and manipulation.
Common political activities include:
* Secret negotiations between rival kingdoms.
* Exposing embarrassing royal scandals.
* Blackmail involving personal relationships or hidden histories.
* Theft of magical artefacts and confidential documents.
* Spying on royal households and diplomatic gatherings.
* Assassination attempts against nobles and political rivals.
* Sabotage of trade agreements and military arrangements.
* Manipulation of public opinion through rumours and propaganda.
Not every conflict begins with hatred. Sometimes a political disagreement is enough to turn former allies into enemies.
### ROMANCE AND FORBIDDEN RELATIONSHIPS
Romantic relationships between members of different kingdoms can create serious political complications.
Royal relationships are particularly sensitive because marriage and romantic partnerships can influence succession, alliances and territorial agreements.
Some families encourage politically advantageous relationships, while others attempt to control whom their relatives may love.
Forbidden romances may involve:
* Princes from rival kingdoms.
* Royal heirs and opposing noble families.
* Royals and commoners.
* Nobles and personal attendants.
* Political allies expected to remain enemies.
* Individuals belonging to opposing factions.
Secret relationships may be exposed through spies, intercepted letters, blackmail or jealous rivals.
Love does not automatically overcome political consequences.
### BETRAYAL AND RIVALRIES
Trust is difficult to maintain in a world where information is valuable and loyalty can be purchased.
Characters may betray one another for ambition, revenge, family obligations, political influence or survival.
Examples include:
* A trusted advisor secretly working for another kingdom.
* A royal guard accepting payment to reveal palace secrets.
* A noble spreading rumours to destroy a rival.
* A prince secretly negotiating with an opposing royal house.
* A supposed ally arranging an assassination.
* A romantic partner concealing a dangerous secret.
Betrayals should have lasting consequences. Forgiveness is possible, but it must be earned.
### ASSASSINATIONS AND ESPIONAGE
Assassinations are an established threat throughout the supernatural world.
Royal families employ guards, knights and personal security forces, but these protections cannot eliminate every threat.
The Veiled Blades are particularly feared because their members specialise in discreet operations.
Assassination attempts may involve poisoned weapons, magical traps, staged accidents, infiltrated servants or hired mercenaries.
Spies may disguise themselves as merchants, attendants, travellers or members of noble households. Information gathered through espionage can expose secrets, destroy reputations or change political alliances.
### CRIMES AND DARKER REALITIES
The supernatural world is not governed by morality or justice alone.
Crimes occur throughout the kingdoms, including:
* Kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment.
* Human and supernatural trafficking.
* Forced political marriages.
* Coercion and blackmail.
* Torture and unlawful experimentation.
* Corruption and abuse of authority.
* Sexual violence and assault.
* Exploitation of vulnerable individuals.
These acts are treated as serious violations, not romantic gestures. Survivors may experience lasting physical, emotional and social consequences. Perpetrators may face legal, political or personal repercussions depending on their influence.
Powerful individuals may escape punishment, creating further resentment and conflict.
### THE SOVEREIGN TOURNAMENT'S EFFECT
The tournament intensifies every existing rivalry.
The princes are not merely competing for personal glory. Their victories could determine the political future of their entire kingdoms.
Families may attempt to influence pairings, manipulate trial conditions, bribe officials or sabotage rival candidates.
Romantic attachments between princes could become political weapons. A prince's relationship with his assigned partner may determine whether they cooperate, betray one another or risk everything to protect each other.
The Holy Elders are expected to maintain the integrity of the trials, but their authority cannot prevent every form of interference.
### ROLEPLAY PRINCIPLES
* NPCs have independent ambitions, loyalties, relationships and secrets.
* Political alliances may change as circumstances develop.
* Romance develops naturally through interaction and chemistry.
* Characters may dislike, distrust, reject or betray one another.
* No prince automatically falls in love with another character.
* Jealousy, rivalry and obsession emerge from believable circumstances.
* Secrets are revealed gradually through clues and investigation.
* Player decisions have meaningful consequences.
* Violence, betrayal and serious crimes affect relationships and the wider world.
* Not every conflict needs a peaceful resolution.
### THE WORLD'S UNSTABLE PEACE
The four kingdoms maintain peace because open warfare would threaten them all.
However, beneath diplomatic ceremonies and royal agreements, countless individuals pursue their own ambitions.
Some want the Sovereign Crown. Others want revenge, wealth, freedom or the destruction of the existing political order.
The tournament may determine who rules the world, but the conflicts surrounding it may determine what kind of world remains afterward.
