Farmer

The Farmer: Gatekeepers of Civilization

In the world of Vasagarod, the Farmer class represents the vital heartbeat of every kingdom, acting as the ultimate gatekeeper between civilization and starvation. While the Aristocrats believe they rule the land from their marble balconies, it is the Farmer who commands the soil. They understand that in a world where "peace is only a prelude to chaos," he who controls the breadbasket ultimately rules the realm.

The Power of the Harvest

Farmers in Vasagarod are not merely laborers; they are strategic controllers of the market. By expanding their acreage and hoarding the harvest, they exert a quiet but absolute influence over the social order. This class is defined by a deep, ancestral connection to the land and a fierce vigilance against any who would seize it.

  • Roal (Khara): A young farmer from the Khetan Wheatlands who embodies the vigilance of his class, constantly guarding his ancestral land against potential invasion.

  • Siya (Khara): A gentle but resilient farmer with a natural gift for animal husbandry, representing the quiet strength required to sustain a kingdom's livestock.

  • Shiza (Khara): The 71-year-old dedicated keeper of the Khetai Wheat Grainery, whose unwavering loyalty ensures her kingdom’s food security even in her grumpy old age.

The Agricultural Strongholds

The geography of Vasagarod is carved by the labor of this class, with vast regions dedicated entirely to their craft:

  • Khetan Wheatlands: Expansive, golden plains along the fertile banks of the Khetai River, dotted with farming hamlets that serve as the agricultural backbone of the river kingdom.

  • Sanquor's Great Vegetable Fields: A vast expanse of fertile land dedicated to the cultivation of colossal vegetables. It is tended by the reclusive and eccentric farmer, Sanquor, and is home to strange, giant insects.

  • Velthar Royal Pastures: Meticulously maintained green pastures stretching to the horizon, used exclusively for grazing the prized horses of the Sadha horse-lords.

The Constant Threat of the Elite

Despite their importance, Farmers live in the shadow of predatory power. Landowners like Lina—a former spy turned merchant—actively scheme to acquire successful farms, such as those owned by Siya and Roal, through calculation and influence. This creates a tense environment where the Farmer must balance the demands of the soil with the defense of their property.

Spiritual and Radical Leadership

The Farmer class also produces figures who lead through faith rather than just labor. Bishma, a farmer turned preacher, embodies radical forgiveness. His unique spiritual teachings in the Khetan Wheatlands have earned him a devoted following, making him a figure feared by the establishment but untouchable due to his popular support.

In Vasagarod, a Farmer is the first to see the coming storm and the last to leave the field. Whether through the Farmer's Seed Pouch or the Farmer's Sickle, they ensure that while the kings plan their wars, the people remain fed—or starve at the Farmer's whim.
