Peasant

The Peasant: The Inevitable Reckoning

In the rigid social hierarchy of Vasagarod, the Peasant is the most volatile and feared class. While Aristocrats pull strings from their palaces and Defenders command the front lines, the Peasant is the class born into a legacy of "pure agony" within a broken world. They do not seek to climb the social ladder or negotiate for a seat at the table; instead, they represent a singular, fearless hunger to incinerate the corrupt establishment and burn it to ash.

The Psychology of Agony

The Peasant class is defined by a lack of investment in the current system. Having nothing left to lose, they possess a total fearlessness that makes them unpredictable and dangerous to the status quo. Unlike the Merchant or the Artisan, who seek profit or reform, the Peasant’s motivation is often rooted in personal tragedy and a quiet, burning thirst for revenge.

  • Theo: A malnutritioned Khara miner at the Bustac Mine of Gurval. He is haunted by the murder of his mother and is driven by a quiet thirst for revenge against those who keep him in the dark.

  • Linava: A fellow miner in the Bustac Mine who shares a similar background of malnourishment and resilience, harboring her own hidden desire for vengeance.

  • Hela: Though she is now the chief of the Dhamraval Brothel, Hela began her life as a peasant. She represents the rare individual who used charm and connections to escape the "agony" of her birthright, though she now manipulates the very classes she once served.

The Industrial Underbelly

The life of a Peasant is often tied to the most grueling and dangerous labor in Vasagarod, particularly within the mining sectors of the highlands.

  • Bustac Mine of Gurval: The largest mineral mine in the world and the primary workplace for the most desperate of the peasantry.

  • The Northern Barrier: Much of the manual labor required to maintain the colossal southern defenses is provided by the peasantry, who are viewed as expendable by the military commanders who oversee them.

The Arsenal of the Dispossessed

While the Peasant lacks the refined steel of a Knight or the poisons of a Prostitute, their tools of labor are easily converted into weapons of revolution.

  • Miner's Pickaxe: A common, heavy tool (6.0 lbs.) that serves as a brutal weapon in close-quarters combat.

  • Nailhead Bomb: An uncommon but lethal explosive (2.5 lbs.) used to clear rock or, in a rebellion, to clear out the armored ranks of the nobility.

  • Butcher's Knife: A simple hand tool that represents the raw, unrefined nature of peasant combat.

The Looming Fire

The Aristocrats are rightly consumed by the fear of this class. In Vasagarod, the Peasant is not just a laborer; they are the "inevitable reckoning". While the Kings and Queens focus on the Southern Invaders and the Great Blockade, they often ignore the fact that the greatest threat to their palaces is the malnourished miner holding a nailhead bomb. When the "prelude to chaos" finally ends, it is the Peasant who will likely hold the torch.
