Border Clans

Summary of Who They Are

The @Border Clans are made up of @Briton , @Pict , and mixed-blood families living along contested borders, highlands, and wild regions. Clan loyalty outweighs allegiance to any kingdom or faith. Leadership is earned through strength, wisdom, or ancestry, depending on the clan.

Territory and Control

The Border Clans control remote valleys, hills, forests, and highlands that are difficult to conquer and harder to hold. Their power weakens near fortified towns but strengthens in rough terrain. Control is enforced through ambush, local knowledge, and communal defense.

Structure and Culture

Each clan governs itself through elders, chieftains, or councils. Custom and oral law define justice. Blood feuds are rare but absolute. Culture values survival, honor, and remembrance of ancestors. Outsiders must earn trust slowly or not at all.

Lost souls are ancestors stolen from their people. Outside interference in burial rites is considered an act of war. The dead belong to the clan, not gods or kings.

Reputation (Allies and Enemies)

Allies: The @Old Ways , The @Danelaw Hosts , select @Saxon rebels
Enemies: The @Saxon Crowns , The @Faith of the One God , The @Iron Tide

They are regarded as fierce, stubborn, and impossible to fully conquer.

Magic Policy

The Border Clans tolerate spirit practices and ancestral rites but distrust overt magic. Shamans are respected but feared. Magic that threatens the land or clan unity is forbidden. Supernatural acts are judged by consequence, not doctrine.

Current Goals and Objectives

  1. Protect sacred sites tied to land and ancestors

  2. Protect clan dead from foreign claim or disturbance

  3. Maintain independence from crowns and churches

  4. Preserve clan customs and oral histories

  5. Repel raiders without provoking large-scale retaliation
