Faith of the One God

Summary of Who They Are

The @Faith of the One God, sometimes called "The Faith", is followed by @Saxon clergy, nobles, commoners, and converts across the British Isles. Its power is centralized in monasteries, cathedrals, and royal courts. Priests, bishops, and appointed inquisitors enforce doctrine and root out pagan influence. The Faith presents itself as the sole path to salvation and stability.

Territory and Control

The Faith holds strongest influence in Saxon-controlled regions, particularly @Wessex , @Mercia , and @East Anglia . It controls holy sites, learning centers, and legal authority in many towns. Its reach weakens in borderlands, Danish settlements, and remote regions, where enforcement becomes violent rather than orderly.

Structure and Culture

The Faith is strictly hierarchical. Authority flows from senior clergy to local priests, with inquisitors acting outside normal law. Obedience is valued above compassion. Doubt is treated as a moral failing. Public ritual reinforces unity, while private confession is used to identify dissent.

They deny Ragnarök entirely, calling it pagan fatalism. Lost souls are seen as souls stolen from divine judgment. Their existence is proof of heresy, improper burial, or pagan interference. Reclaiming them reinforces the Church’s claim that no soul escapes the One God’s will.

Reputation (Allies and Enemies)

Allies: The @Saxon Crowns , The @Oathbound (fractured), select mercenary orders
Enemies: The @Old Ways , The @Iron Tide , The @Raven Banner , @Border Clans

To supporters, the Faith represents order and salvation. To enemies, it is oppressive, intolerant, and dangerous.

Magic Policy

The Faith denies the existence of magic entirely. Any practiced power is labeled sorcery or deception. Only miracles performed by the One God through chosen servants are considered legitimate. Unauthorized supernatural acts are punished as heresy, regardless of outcome or intent.

Current Goals and Objectives

  1. Eradicate worship of the Old Gods and spirit practices

  2. Eliminate heresy and suppress emerging schisms

  3. Expand influence into Danish and border regions

  4. Secure political authority through royal alliances

  5. Destroy pagan relics and sacred sites

  6. Reclaim lost souls to restore divine order and authority

  7. Establish unquestioned doctrinal unity across the Isles
