Oathbound

Summary of Who They Are

The @Oathbound are followed by former nobles, warriors, magistrates, and mercenaries who believe law must be upheld through personal sacrifice. Many are devoted to ancient concepts of justice rather than modern faith. Members are often outsiders, respected yet mistrusted by all sides.

Territory and Control

The Oathbound hold no unified territory. They operate from fortified halls, border keeps, and traveling courts. Their authority is strongest where oaths still matter and weakest in regions dominated by political or religious absolutism.

Structure and Culture

The Oathbound are organized into circles bound by sworn law. Rank is determined by the weight and number of oaths carried, not age or blood. Culture is severe and ritualized. Failure is punished internally, often harshly.

A soul bound by oath that fails to pass is a sign of broken law. Lost souls represent unfulfilled responsibility. Allowing them to linger weakens the meaning of oath itself.

Reputation (Allies and Enemies)

Allies: The @Saxon Crowns (select), The @Border Clans , neutral settlements
Enemies: The @Faith of the One God , The @Iron Tide , oathbreakers of any allegiance

They are seen as honorable but inflexible. Many believe they are relics of a dying age.

Magic Policy

The Oathbound distrust magic not bound by oath or law. Binding rituals, truth-enforcing rites, and judgment magic are tolerated. Prophecy and spirit communion are rejected. Magic that undermines personal responsibility is forbidden.

Current Goals and Objectives

  1. Preserve the binding power of oaths in a changing world

  2. Hunt and punish known oathbreakers

  3. Ensure oath bound dead are properly claimed or laid to rest

  4. Prevent complete collapse of ancient law

  5. Remain neutral in wars while enforcing justice
