Deep-Hollow

History

Deep-Hollow was forged during the chaotic wake of the Mind-Rend Ritual, rising from the subterranean shelters where dwarven miners and early arcane pioneers fled to escape the wrath of falling dragons. Utilizing the ancient, crystal-hard wood of a colossal petrified forest that had been petrified by ancient Primordial energy, these survivors carved out a secure, subterranean stronghold. While other settlements focused on quick riches and raw extraction, Deep-Hollow focused on survival through mastery. By discovering how to safely step down and stabilize volatile Manna into dependable energy, they transformed their hidden refuge into the premier technological and arcane powerhouse of the region.

Culture

The culture of Deep-Hollow is intensely disciplined, deeply intellectual, and constantly measured by precision.

Order and Efficiency: Because a single miscalculated spell or unstable Manna core can cause a catastrophic explosion underground, the populace values strict protocols, rigorous mathematical training, and absolute rule-following. Carelessness is treated as a severe social crime.

The Pride of the Forge and Runes: Mastery of a craft is the highest virtue. Dwarven metalworkers, Elemental Born sentinels, and Resistor arcanists hold immense mutual respect for one another, viewing their combined talents as the sole reason humanity survives the harsh northern frontier.

Guarded and Watchful: Deep-Hollow locals are naturally suspicious of outsiders, particularly fly-by-night prospectors and reckless spellcasters from other city-states. Secrets are kept close, and security at every checkpoint is unyielding.

Economy

Deep-Hollow holds a vital, specialized monopoly over the manufacturing and energy infrastructure of the region.

Arcane Processing & Power: They buy raw, unstable Manna crystals from other settlements, refine and stabilize them within their secure vaults, and export safe Manna Bricks and power cores to fuel the rest of the canyon.

High-Grade Gear and Weaponry: The city is the primary producer of precision-forged runic focus tools, cold-iron armor, and heavy anti-dragon weaponry (such as ballista bolts and siege ballistics) used across the region.

Subterranean Resource Extraction: Beyond energy refinement, they mine rare heavy metals, cold iron, and conductive ores from deep beneath the northern roots to supply their endless industrial output.

Factions

The Sovereign Guild of Resistors (The Ruling Council): A strict, meritocratic council of master arcanists and senior dwarf engineers who hold absolute political and administrative control. They prioritize technological safety, resource allocation, and defensive readiness above all else.

The Ashen Watch (The Military Vanguard): A dedicated, highly decorated order of dwarf wardens and Elemental Born fighters responsible for manning the northern wall and protecting the city from feral dragon attacks. They hold significant cultural clout and often push for more aggressive military patrolling outside the city walls.
