Overview & Survival
Driven into the harshest, unmapped wilderness during the Age of Scales, the Orcs never unified to build cities or empires. Instead, they evolved into near-feral, pack-based survivalists who thrive in environments that would kill other races—barren badlands, volcanic crags, and dense, monster-ridden jungles. They view civilization not as an achievement, but as a cage that makes mortals soft and weak.
Social Structure & Culture
The Pack System: Orcs travel in tight-knit, nomadic warbands or "packs" bound by strength and mutual survival. Leaders are chosen through physical dominance and tactical cunning; if a leader shows weakness, they are swiftly challenged and replaced.
Chaotic Instinct: Possessing an intense connection to the raw, unrefined Flow of the land, Orcs are fiercely impulsive, unpredictable, and hyper-reactive to threats. They rarely plan years in advance, living strictly in the present cycle of hunting, fighting, and moving.
The Blood-Feud: While individual packs will occasionally ally to raid a surface trade route or down a wandering Feral Dragon, long-term Orc alliances are almost non-existent. Internal rivalries between packs are frequent, brutal, and short-lived.
Role in Arkhaia
To the civilized city-states, Orcs are viewed as a chaotic force of nature rather than a political faction. They act as apex wilderness scavengers—tracking Feral Dragons to strip their elemental hides, raiding border settlements for metal and supplies, and fiercely butchering any surface-dwellers or Nyctari scouting parties that trespass into their territory.
