Subcontinent of Vael-Kaelen

Climate and Geography

Vael-Kaelen is a warm, dry canyon-basin carved into the earth, surrounded by jagged volcanic cliffs on one side and a roaring sea on the other.

The Weather: Hot and dry, with occasional Gale-Storms (sudden, howling winds) blowing in from the coast and Ash-Drifts floating down from the northern caldera.

The Environment: Red-sand canyons, petrified stone forests, winding riverbeds, and glowing fissures in the rock where raw Primal Veins bleed through the dirt.

The History of Vael-Kaelen

1. The Great Nesting Ground

During the Age of Scales, Vael-Kaelen was the breeding ground for a massive Fire Dragon. The ancient dragon used its fire magic to bake the canyon walls into stone and enslave thousands of humanoids to mine the glowing red Manna beneath the valley.

2. The Mind-Rend & The Fall

When the Mind-Rend Ritual hit, the dragon king lost its mind mid-flight and crashed into the center of the valley, carving out a massive crater known as The Glass Pit. The dragon lost its intellect and fled into the northern volcanic crags, where it now lives as a wild, territorial beast.

3. The Gold Rush Era

Humanoids broke their slave chains and realized Vael-Kaelen was floating on top of one of the richest, easiest-to-access Primal Veins in the realm. Settlers, miners, and fortune seekers flooded the canyon, quickly building boomtowns, fortresses, and trade routes.

4. The Present Threat

Today, Vael-Kaelen is a chaotic frontier. Three young city-states clash over mining rights in the canyon, the wild Elemental Dragon’s of the past still occasionally swoop down to burn trade caravans, and deep subterranean tunnels beneath the red rocks have recently begun echoing with the sound of skittering legs...
