Overview & Origin
The Sunderi are all that remain of the world's original, surface-dwelling elven lineage. Centuries ago, during the tyranny of the Dragon Monarchs, the ancient Elves dared to challenge their draconic masters. Driven by a legendary hubris, they believed their graceful intellect and mastery over forgotten pre-Flow arts could break the dragons' iron grip without relying on raw subterranean power. The dragons responded with total, scorched-earth annihilation—hunting the pure-blooded Elves to absolute extinction and trampling their proud glittering cities into ash.
While half of the surviving refugees fled into the dark abysses to eventually become the spider-hybrid Nyctari, those who remained on the surface intermingled with Humans to survive. Taking the name The Sunderi ("The Broken-Lineage"), they wear their title as both a solemn memorial and a badge of endurance. They are a living bridge between a erased past and the harsh, high-voltage reality of modern Arkhaia.
Physicality & Traits
Lingering Ancestral Grace: Taller and more slender than standard Humans, Sunderi inherit tapered ears, keen eyesight, and subtle, refined features that recall the beauty of their extinct forebears.
Flow Sensitivity: Although ancient Elves largely ignored the volatile subterranean Flow, the Sunderi have inherited a faint, natural attunement to environmental Manna. They can physically feel subtle vibrations, thermal shifts, and impending surges in nearby Primal Veins long before other surface races detect them.
Culture & Place in Society
Keepers of the Broken Lineage: Sunderi culture is deeply archive-driven, obsessed with recovering and preserving the lost art, philosophy, music, and forgotten non-Flow practices of their elf ancestors. They view their heritage with a tragic duality: intense pride in what their ancestors built, weighed down by the solemn knowledge that ancient elven arrogance and rebellion directly led to their total downfall.
The Nyctari Abomination: Sunderi fiercely reject any kinship with the subterranean Nyctari. To a Sunderi, the Nyctari are not distant cousins, but a horrifying, spider-bound corruption of true elven heritage—cowards who traded their bloodline to arachnids in the dark while the true surface Elves stayed and died fighting dragons.
Archivists & Diplomatic Anchors: Because they lack the industrial heavy-metal power of the Dwarves or the sheer numbers of the Dragonfolk, the Sunderi thrive as invaluable historians, translators, diplomats, and runic archivists within surface settlements like Vael-Kaelen.
Scouts of the Threshold: Many Sunderi take to the wild frontiers as nomadic rangers and stalkers. They guard surface access shafts against Nyctari scouting parties, map unpredictable atmospheric Flow weather, and track feral dragons across the red-sand canyons to ensure their ancestral mistakes are never repeated.
