The Ashen Shallows

Climate and Geography

The Ashen Shallows are a desolate, mostly uninhabited stretch of gray silt flats, stagnant tidal marshes, and jagged, salt-encrusted mudflats wedged directly between the southern ocean, the eastern Sun-Silt Delta, the western Silt-Reach Barrens, and the southern rim of the Glass Pit. The environment is shaped by the relentless push and pull of toxic, mineral-heavy tides and baking coastal heat.

The Weather: Heavy, oppressive humidity blanketed by a permanent, low-hanging sea fog that smells of sulfur, rotting kelp, and brine. Coastal gales sweep inland off the turbulent southern sea, kicking up blinding clouds of gray alkaline dust that mix with sea salt to sting the eyes and corrode unprotected metal.

The Environment: A treacherous expanse of shifting quick-silt, cracked gray mudflats, and skeletal stands of salt-burned mangroves. The terrain is entirely devoid of fresh water, featuring shallow, highly caustic tidal pools that glow with a faint, iridescent film where residual Manna runoff from the northern Glass Pit seeps out into the ocean. It is a lonely, desolate wasteland bypassed by major trade routes, home only to scavenger crabs, aggressive mud-drakes, and things best left undisturbed.
