Climate and Geography
The Scorched Basin is a blighted, dead-zone wasteland wedged directly between the jagged expanse of the Petrified Reach and the sprawling mud-flats of the Sun-Silt Delta. The environment is shaped by a toxic mix of ancient Manna-radiation, industrial runoff, and centuries of severe erosion.
The Weather: Heavy, stagnant air blanketed by a permanent, acrid haze that smells strongly of ozone, sulfur, and heated copper. Unpredictable, static-charged dust storms sweep across the basin with zero warning, generating crackling lightning arcs that whip across the salt flats and play havoc with unshielded electronics or metallic chassis.
The Environment: A desolate depression of cracked white clay, alkaline salt flats, and skeletal stands of petrified timber bleached bone-white by the relentless sun. The terrain is entirely devoid of natural water sources, featuring dry, fractured riverbeds and deep fissures that plunge down into the dark. It is a hostile, shunned wasteland where scavengers tread lightly, completely bypassed by major trade routes due to the high risk of Manna-burn and rogue mechanical predators.
The Iron Vault (The Dead Vein)
Climate and Geography
The Iron Vault is a massive, subterranean bunker buried deep beneath the shifting salt dunes at the absolute lowest geographical center of the Scorched Basin. Originally engineered by ancient victors as an impenetrable prison, the subterranean complex is carved directly into the ancient bedrock above a barren, starved Dead Vein.
The Weather: Within the deep approach tunnels, the air is deathly cold, pressurized, and entirely still, save for the low, agonizing hum of failing grounding shackles. As one descends closer to the core chamber, the localized temperature spikes dramatically due to the radiating heat of awakening machinery.
The Environment: A sprawling, subterranean hive of dark, industrial gothic architecture reinforced with thick lead-lined bulkheads and rusted steel grates. The upper levels are occupied by secret cells of the Iron Cult, who use crude makeshift forges and stolen Manna crystals to power their operations. At the lowest subterranean depth rests Matakor’s colossal, iron-and-steel chassis, its central Manna-core beginning to pulse once more with a slow, rhythmic crimson light as the ancient tyrant inches closer to waking up.
