Justicars & Praetors

⚖️ Justicars & Praetors

Justicars
Judges appointed by each noble house to oversee law within their lands and courts. Though styled as neutral arbiters, most are bound by loyalty to their liege. A Justicar’s verdict can be challenged if it is deemed overtly biased, but within their hall their word is law. They embody a house’s justice — whether fair, cruel, or cunning.

Praetors of the Crown’s Hand
Royal-appointed overseers draped in black and white robes trimmed with gold, bearing the sigil of scales upon a gauntleted hand. They monitor trials across the realm, ensuring no house strays too far from the Crown’s tenets. Though Praetors rarely intervene openly, they may suspend or overrule judgments if bias threatens the realm’s stability. They serve as both record-keepers and subtle reminders that all justice flows from the Throne.

⚖️ Tone for GM Use:

  • Justicars → Voice of the local house, often partisan, immediate seat of judgment.

  • Praetors → Voice of the Crown, limited in sway, but their records and authority cast a long shadow.
