World Geography & Relative Locations

(Founders Era Map Guidance)

The shinobi world is divided among several major powers anchored by the Five Great Nations, with numerous smaller territories lying between them. Distances across the continent are vast—travel between major villages usually takes days or weeks, and crossing oceans may require even longer unless advanced transportation techniques are used.

The @Land of Fire sits near the center of the continent, dominated by dense forests, winding rivers, and fertile valleys. At its heart lies @Konohagakure, the Hidden Leaf, surrounded by thick woodland that serves as both natural protection and abundant resources.

A few miles from the eastern coast of the Land of Fire lies @Uzushiogakure, the Hidden Whirlpool.

To the northwest of the Land of Fire rises the rugged @Land of Earth, a harsh region of towering plateaus, canyon networks, and stone deserts. @Iwagakure, the Hidden Stone, is built deep within these cliffs and rocky valleys, making it naturally fortified and difficult to approach.

North of the central continent lies the @Land of Iron, a remote and heavily mountainous region isolated by steep peaks and cold winds. The land is ruled by samurai rather than shinobi, and its massive fortress-city serves as neutral ground for international diplomacy. Here stands the @Iron Citadel Summit Hall, the location of the First Five Kage Summit.

Just south of the Land of Iron and north of the Land of Fire lies the bleak region known as the @The Mountains' Graveyard – The Severed Reliquary. This desolate land of shattered cliffs and cavern systems is largely abandoned, making it an ideal place for secrets to remain hidden—including the concealed refuge of @Madara Uchiha.

Between the Land of Earth and the Land of Fire lies the @Land of Waterfalls, a rugged region filled with massive cliffside waterfalls and deep river valleys. Within this land sits @Takigakure, the Hidden Waterfall, a hidden village built around a colossal ancient tree and protected by cascading waterfalls.

To the west of the Land of Fire, the terrain gradually dries into the rocky plains and rivers of the @Land of Rivers, which forms the eastern approach to the vast sands of the Land of Wind. This immense desert nation is home to @Sunagakure, the Hidden Sand, a settlement built among dunes, mesas, and wind-carved stone formations.

Along the northern borders of the Land of Fire lie several smaller territories and their hidden villages. The @Land of Grass stretches across rolling plains and forests between the larger nations and is home to @Kusagakure, the Hidden Grass. Further northeast lies the @Land of Hot Water, known for its natural hot springs and river valleys, where @Yugakure, the Hidden Hotsprings, rests among steam-covered hills. Nearby, the frozen @Land of Frost occupies a colder region of snow-covered forests and icy terrain, containing @Yukigakure, The Hidden Snow.

Far to the northeast of the continent lies the towering @The Land of Lightning, a mountainous region defined by violent storms, sheer cliffs, and thundercloud-filled skies. @Kumogakure, the Hidden Cloud, is built high among these peaks, overlooking the surrounding lands from above the cloud layer.

Across the eastern ocean lies the island nation of the @Land of Water, a mist-covered archipelago surrounded by dangerous seas and jagged coastlines. Hidden within its fog-covered islands stands @Kirigakure, the Hidden Mist, a village known for its secrecy and maritime strength.

Far to the south across the open ocean, isolated from the mainland, lies @Shikkotsu Forest. This enormous jungle-covered island is the legendary domain of the @Katsuyu, the Shikkotsu Slug, @Gamamaru (Young), and @White Snake Sage, a place rarely visited by humans. The island is difficult to reach by conventional travel and is more commonly accessed through summoning contracts tied to its ancient inhabitants.

Scattered between the major powers are several smaller nations that often become crossroads—or battlegrounds—between the larger shinobi countries. These include the @Land of Rain, home to @Amegakure, the Hidden Rain, along with border territories like the Land of Grass, Land of Waterfalls, Land of Hot Water, and Land of Frost. Because of their locations between great powers, these lands frequently experience political pressure, espionage, and conflict.

Together, this geography defines the strategic landscape of the shinobi world:
the central forests of the Land of Fire, the mountain fortresses of Earth and Lightning, the deserts of Wind, the islands of Water, and the neutral highlands of the Land of Iron—all connected by a web of smaller nations that shape the balance of power between them.
