PAGE 13— PUPPETRY & WEAPONIZED PROXIES

Valley of the End: Founders’ Legacy

Not all shinobi fight blade-to-blade.

Some never enter striking distance.

Some wage war from several meters away while their true body remains motionless.

Puppetry is the art of controlling constructed weapons — most often humanoid constructs — through @Chakra Threads.

It is one of the most specialized combat disciplines in the shinobi world.

And it turns the battlefield into a stage of remote-controlled death.

I. WHAT PUPPETRY IS

A puppet user channels chakra through extremely fine strands known as chakra threads.

These threads attach to joints, mechanisms, and control nodes within a puppet.

Through these threads the user can:

• move limbs
• trigger hidden weapons
• control movement and posture
• coordinate attacks

To an observer, the puppet appears to move independently.

In reality, every motion is being directed through the puppeteer’s chakra control.

The puppet becomes an extension of the user’s nervous system.

This allows the puppeteer to fight at a distance while remaining physically removed from danger.

It is a form of remote warfare.

The @Chikamatsu Puppetry Collection

Among Sunagakure’s many puppet traditions, none are spoken of with more reverence than the Chikamatsu Collection. These@White Secret Scroll: Chikamatsu Collection of Tenwere crafted generations ago by the master artisan Monzaemon Chikamatsu, widely regarded as the founder of modern puppetry techniques. Rather than belonging to a bloodline, the collection is considered a sacred inheritance of the Sand itself—passed only to those puppeteers judged worthy of wielding them.

Each puppet was designed not as an individual weapon, but as part of a complete battlefield system. Their movements, weapons, and internal mechanisms were built to complement one another, allowing a single puppeteer to command them in coordinated formations capable of overwhelming even elite shinobi. When used together, the ten puppets can create layered defenses, sealing formations, and devastating combination attacks that ordinary puppet users cannot replicate.

Because of their complexity, very few shinobi have ever been able to control the entire collection. The puppets require immense precision with chakra threads, exceptional multitasking ability, and a deep understanding of puppet synchronization. Most puppeteers can barely manage two or three puppets in combat; commanding the Chikamatsu Collection demands the control of ten distinct constructs simultaneously, each moving with independent purpose while remaining part of a unified strategy.

For this reason, the Chikamatsu puppets are not assigned lightly. They are studied, maintained, and guarded by Sunagakure’s most skilled puppet masters, who gradually pass down their knowledge to the next generation.

Among those now beginning that long process is @Chiyo, a talented but still inexperienced puppeteer whose skill with toxins and battlefield tactics has already begun to attract attention within the village. Though far from mastering the collection, she has been granted rare access to study their mechanisms and techniques. Patiently observing their designs and practicing the delicate control they require, Chiyo is slowly learning the intricacies of the legendary puppets.

One day, if her skill continues to grow, she may become the next shinobi capable of wielding the full power of the Chikamatsu Collection.

II. WHAT PUPPETS ARE MADE OF

Combat puppets are carefully engineered constructs.

They are typically built from hardened wood or reinforced materials designed to balance durability and mobility.

Inside their bodies are intricate mechanical systems.

These may include:

• concealed blades and spike mechanisms
• poison reservoirs and dispersal needles
• projectile launch systems
• smoke or toxin deployment chambers
• hidden sealing tags or traps
• reinforced armor plating

Many puppets resemble human figures to disguise their capabilities.

Others are deliberately unconventional, designed purely for battlefield efficiency.

Some puppets are even modeled after fallen warriors, preserving their form as a weapon.

III. ADVANTAGES OF PUPPET WARFARE

Puppetry provides several strategic advantages.

Distance Safety
The puppeteer can remain far from the immediate fight.

Multi-Directional Pressure
Multiple puppets can attack from different angles simultaneously.

Layered Traps
Puppets can carry hidden weapons that trigger unpredictably.

Psychological Warfare
Opponents may struggle to identify the true threat when the user remains still.

Because of this, puppeteers often appear calm and motionless while their constructs wage battle around them.

IV. LIMITATIONS

Despite its advantages, puppetry has significant weaknesses.

Chakra Thread Vulnerability
Threads can be cut or disrupted by sharp techniques.

Concentration Requirement
Controlling multiple puppets demands extreme focus.

Terrain Limitations
Dense terrain or obstacles can restrict puppet movement.

Chakra Cost
Complex puppets require constant chakra flow to operate.

If the puppeteer loses focus, the puppets lose coordination.

And if the threads are severed, the constructs fall inert.

V. ADVANCED PUPPET CONTROL

Experienced puppet users can control several puppets simultaneously.

This requires:

• exceptional chakra control
• refined finger manipulation
• rapid mental multitasking

Each puppet must be directed independently.

As the number increases, the mental strain grows dramatically.

Elite puppeteers develop combat styles built entirely around multi-construct coordination.

VI. EXTREME APPLICATIONS

Some puppet masters pursue even more radical paths.

Instead of merely controlling puppets, they begin replacing parts of their own body with mechanical components.

These modifications may include:

• weaponized limbs
• hidden internal mechanisms
• reinforced structural plating
• detachable puppet segments

At this point, the distinction between puppeteer and puppet begins to fade.

The shinobi themselves becomes part of the weapon system.

VII. STRATEGIC ROLE IN WAR

Puppet warfare is particularly valuable in conflicts where direct exposure is dangerous.

Puppet users can:

• test enemy defenses safely
• deploy traps before engagement
• apply poison from a distance
• overwhelm opponents through coordinated attacks

Because puppets can carry complex weapon systems, they often function as mobile arsenals.

This makes them ideal for siege tactics, assassination missions, and defensive ambushes.

VIII. WHY PUPPETRY UNSETTLES NEWCOMERS

To many shinobi, puppetry feels unnatural.

The puppeteer may appear calm.

Silent.

Almost disengaged.

Meanwhile their creations move with lethal intent.

This is because puppetry represents a different philosophy of combat.

Victory is not achieved through personal strength alone.

It is achieved through design, preparation, and control.

CORE TRUTH

Puppetry demonstrates that shinobi warfare is not only about speed or elemental power.

It is also about engineering, strategy, and indirect violence.

A puppet master may never swing a blade personally.

Yet their creations may strike from every direction at once.

And by the time an enemy realizes where the true threat lies—

the threads have already tightened.
