Essence: The ability to perceive the hidden world, extending the senses beyond mortal limits to see auras, read emotions, and witness the echoes of the past.

Description (In-World)

"The kine believe they have five senses. It is a pitiful, narrow window through which to view a universe of infinite texture. Auspex is the act of throwing open all the shutters. At first, it is a maddening flood: you will smell the lie on a man's breath, see the shimmering halo of his rage, and feel the cold touch of a ghost on the dagger he holds. You must learn to filter the symphony from the noise. Master it, and no secret is safe from you. The wall is no longer an obstacle, only a suggestion. A lie is no longer a deception, only a poorly chosen set of colors in a person's aura. You will see the beautiful, terrible truth of all things."

Levels of Mastery

Initiate: Your senses sharpen to an unnerving degree. You can overhear a whispered secret in a cacophonous Elysium or catch the scent of week-old blood on a carpet. You can touch an object and receive a fleeting psychic impression of its previous owner, a ghost of an emotion left behind.

Adept: Your perception now pierces supernatural veils. You can see the shimmering, distorted form of a Kindred hidden by Obfuscate and read the vibrant colors of a person's aura, discerning their mood, their nature, and the tell-tale stains of diablerie. Your mind can even leave the prison of your body, projecting your consciousness across the city to spy on distant locations.

Master: A master of Auspex becomes a true oracle. You can share your visions, telepathically projecting what you perceive directly into the minds of others. By making physical contact, you can plumb the depths of a person's soul, reading their surface thoughts and guarded memories. No secret is safe, no wall is thick enough, and no lie can withstand the scrutiny of your Sight.

Traditional Practitioners

Auspex is the signature Discipline of the clans who value knowledge and perception. It is an in-clan Discipline for the visionary @Toreador, the scholarly @Tremere, and the insightful @Malkavian. The necromantic @Hecata also possess it, using it to perceive the echoes of death that linger on people and places.
