Gangrel
@Gangrel
Nicknames: The Animals, Outlaws, Savages, the Clan of the Beast
Sect: Primarily Independent or Anarch.
Archetypes: Survivalist, Nomad, Animal Tamer, Urban Explorer, Bodyguard, Outcast Warrior.
Description
The Gangrel are the ultimate survivors, a clan of nomads and predators whose hearts beat in time with the wild places of the world—be they remote forests or forgotten urban ruins. They are deeply connected to their inner Beast, treating it not as a curse to be denied, but as a part of their nature to be understood and embraced. Fiercely independent and territorial, the Gangrel value self-reliance and strength above all the petty politics of the Ivory Tower. They are masters of the hunt, shapeshifters, and warriors who carry the untamed wilderness within their blood.
Known History
The Gangrel's history is one of wandering and conflict, their origins tied to the nomadic peoples of the old world. For centuries, they served the Camarilla as scouts and warriors, their savage skills a valuable asset. However, the relationship was always strained. In the modern nights, this came to a head when their clan's leader within the Camarilla was betrayed by the Inner Circle. In a rare act of clan-wide unity, the Gangrel turned their backs on the Camarilla, abandoning the sect en masse to once again walk their own path as an independent and formidable force.
Clan Characteristics
Disciplines: Animalism, Fortitude, Protean
Bane: The Beast always leaves its mark. Whenever a Gangrel suffers a Bestial Failure or acts on their Compulsion, they gain a temporary animalistic feature (e.g., patches of fur, slitted pupils, a guttural voice, sharpened nails). After accumulating a certain number, these features become permanent, slowly twisting the Gangrel's form into something more monstrous.
Compulsion: Feral Impulses. The vampire's mind is overwhelmed by the Beast. They regress to a primal state, unable to use complex language and driven by instinct. For the scene, they can only communicate in snarls and gestures, and their first response to any problem is either fight or flight.
Views and Standing
Stereotypes: "Scratch a Gangrel, find a wolf. Scratch them again, and they'll turn into one." "They're more comfortable talking to rats than other Kindred." "Fiercely loyal to their own pack, and utterly hostile to everyone else." "Never, ever corner a Gangrel."
In Chicago Tonight: The Gangrel have no Primogen and want no part of @The Camarilla's games. Their power in the city is not political, but territorial. They are found in the city's "wilds"—the vast Lincoln Park, the forest preserves bordering the city, the decaying industrial zones, and the abandoned tunnels of the Undercity. Most are either true independents or have allied with the @Anarchs, serving as toughs and scouts. They view the Camarilla with deep distrust, seeing them as treacherous politicians. A Gangrel might respect Sheriff @Damien's strength but would despise the "leash" he wears for the Prince.
