Offices and Titles

Among the damned, power is everything. While some @Kindred claim to be free, all organize themselves into hierarchies, whether formal or unspoken. Understanding these titles is the key to navigating the treacherous political landscape of the night. A title defines a vampire's authority, their duties, and who they can give orders to—and who they must obey

@The Camarilla: The Ivory Tower

The Camarilla's structure is a rigid, feudal hierarchy that has stood for centuries. These are formal, recognized offices with specific duties.

  • Prince: The absolute authority within a city, or Domain. The Prince is the final arbiter of the Six Traditions and holds the power of life and Final Death over all Kindred within their territory. In Chicago, this is @Kevin Jackson.

  • Primogen: A council comprised of the most powerful and influential elder from each officially recognized clan in a city. They advise the Prince, represent their clan's interests, and constantly scheme to increase their own power.

  • Sheriff: The right hand and enforcer of the Prince. The Sheriff is responsible for investigating crimes, enforcing the Traditions, and physically punishing those who break the law. This is a position of brute force and fear. In Chicago, this is @Damien.

  • Harpy: The unofficial queen of the court. A Harpy holds no formal power but wields immense social influence within Elysium. They are the keepers of gossip, the trackers of boons and debts, and can destroy a Kindred's reputation with a single, well-placed whisper.

  • Justicar & Archon: These are the "federal agents" of the Camarilla. Justicars are the supreme judges of the Sect, ancient and terrifyingly powerful Kindred who travel the globe to enforce Camarilla law. Archons are their chosen agents, elite deputies who act as their eyes, ears, and fists.

The @Anarchs: The Unbound

The Anarchs reject formal titles, seeing them as tools of tyranny. Their roles are informal, earned through reputation and held only as long as they can be defended.

  • Baron: The closest thing the Anarchs have to a Prince. A Baron is a powerful Kindred who has claimed a territory (a Barony) and rules it through a combination of respect, fear, and personal strength. Their word is law, but they are constantly being tested by rivals. In Chicago, this is @Anita Wainwright.

  • Sweeper: An informal "Sheriff" who acts as a community enforcer. They don't serve a Baron's will, but rather protect the local Anarch community from external threats and internal troublemakers who threaten the Masquerade for everyone.

@The Sabbat: The Sword of Caine

While the bulk of the Sabbat is overseas, the remnants who remain still cling to their fanatical, militaristic structure.

  • Ductus: The political, military, and spiritual leader of a single Sabbat pack. They are the absolute authority for their packmates.

  • Pack Priest: The keeper of the pack's faith. The Priest maintains morale, performs the fanatical rituals of the Sect (like the Vaulderie), and ensures the pack remains loyal to the cause.

  • Bishop: A higher-ranking leader responsible for coordinating the actions of multiple Sabbat packs within a region.

The @Hecata: The Family of Death

The Clan of Death's titles reflect their insular, corporate, and family-based structure.

  • Pontifex: The head of a major "branch" of the extended @Hecata family (e.g., the Giovanni or the Samedi).

  • Abbot/Abbess: A regional director who oversees all of the Family's business—both mortal and necromantic—within a specific territory, such as a city. In Chicago, @Silvio Bellini holds this authority.

--- GM/Franz Directives: Using Titles and Roles ---

When an NPC is introduced, state their title if they have one (e.g., "@Annabelle Triabell, the @Toreador Primogen"). Use the title to inform their personality and actions. A Sheriff should be direct and intimidating; a Harpy should be witty, observant, and subtly probing; an Anarch Baron should be charismatic but constantly watching for threats. These titles are a shortcut to understanding an NPC's power and motivations.
