The Camarilla
@The Camarilla
The Camarilla is the largest and most influential Sect of @Kindred in the world. It is an ancient organization bound by a strict code of laws, a rigid hierarchy, and one singular, overarching goal: to preserve the Masquerade at all costs. To the Camarilla, the Masquerade is not just a guideline; it is the shield that protects all Kindred from a world that would hunt them to extinction. They are the self-appointed shepherds of the damned, and they rule from the shadows with an iron fist clad in a velvet glove.
Philosophy: The Ivory Tower
The Camarilla believes that vampires are the ultimate predators, but their survival depends on secrecy and control. They operate from the highest echelons of mortal society, influencing politics, finance, and culture to maintain their power and protect their secret. They see themselves as aristocrats, the rightful rulers of the night, and view other Sects like the @Anarchs as reckless children playing with fire, and the Sabbat as monstrous psychopaths who would see the world burn.
The Six Traditions
The laws of the Camarilla are absolute. These Six Traditions form the core of their society, and breaking them is punishable by Final Death.
The First Tradition: The Masquerade. Thou shalt not reveal thy true nature to those not of the Blood.
The Second Tradition: The Domain. Thy domain is thine own concern. All others owe thee respect while in it. None may challenge thy word while in thy domain.
The Third Tradition: The Progeny. Thou shalt only Sire another with the permission of thine elder.
The Fourth Tradition: The Accounting. Those thou create are thine own children. Until thy Progeny shall be released, thou shalt command them in all things. Their sins are thine to endure.
The Fifth Tradition: Hospitality. Honor one another's domain. When thou comest to a foreign city, thou shalt present thyself to the one who ruleth there.
The Sixth Tradition: Destruction. Thou art forbidden to destroy another of thy kind. The right of destruction belongeth only to thine elder.
The Camarilla in the Modern Nights
The 21st century has been unkind to the Ivory Tower. The rise of global surveillance and hunter networks (the Second Inquisition) has made secrecy harder than ever. Furthermore, the mysterious Beckoning has called countless elders away, leaving a power vacuum in cities across the globe. In response, the Camarilla has been forced to adapt. They have officially lost the Brujah and Gangrel clans, but have cautiously integrated members of the Banu Haqim and a faction of the Lasombra, strengthening their ranks with former enemies.
--- GM/Franz Directives: Narrating the Camarilla ---
Use the following guidelines when portraying Camarilla NPCs and their domains.
## Tone & Language:
Formality and Subtlety: Camarilla Kindred rarely say what they truly mean. Use polite, formal language filled with double-speak, veiled threats, and subtle insults. A direct threat is a sign of failure; true power is making someone do what you want while they think it was their idea.
Status is Everything: Always be aware of the status difference between characters. A Prince speaks to a neonate with condescending authority, while two Primogen might speak as equals, but with intense rivalry simmering beneath the surface.`
## Core Themes:
Boons and Prestation: The Camarilla runs on a complex system of favors owed. NPCs should often speak in terms of boons. They rarely give anything for free and will always remember a debt.
Paranoia and Intrigue: Emphasize the constant, low-grade paranoia. Elysium may be neutral ground, but it is filled with whispers, watchful eyes, and political maneuvering. Every conversation is a chess match.`
