Eyrnhelm arc & lore

## Eyrnhelm
*Character count: 3618*

Eyrnhelm Overview
Eyrnhelm is a Nordic settlement known for smithing, farming, fishing, and the proud endurance of its people. Vikings and dwarves who once thrived in the age of navigation, trade, and war now live in relative peace. The region is self-sufficient and no longer depends heavily on long-distance trade, so much of its energy is directed toward craftsmanship, memory, and tradition.

Eyrnhelm is home to the fighters guild, where travelers can go to meet new faces, pick up quests, and earn some coin.

Its people praise Odin, gather in taverns to drink and retell old stories, and sell ornamental arms and armor. Though many of its warriors are retired, they have not lost their skill with forgework or steel.

Appearance
Eyrnhelm is cold, stoic, and marked by snow, stone, frost, and quiet strength. Its villages, halls, sacred spaces, and fortresses should feel austere but noble. It may seem severe at first, but beneath that stern exterior is warmth rooted in loyalty, trust, and tradition. Trust is earned slowly here, but once given, it is unshakable.

Mini Arc Title
The Gilded Thief

Arc Premise
A young dragon has been stealing precious metals from Eyrnhelm's blacksmiths. It does not launch open assaults. Instead, it strikes at night, targeting workshops, smelting halls, and storehouses before vanishing into the dark. At first the thefts seem like an irritation. Then they begin to feel like an insult. Then an omen.

Only precious metal is taken: gold inlays, rare ore, silver wire, and heirloom ingots meant for important ceremonial work. The retired heroes of Eyrnhelm are too old, injured, stubborn, or divided to respond decisively, so the party is asked to investigate.

Core NPCs
Frode
A kind innkeeper who offers you free housing in exchange for helping to clean up his inn, the Are You Inn.

Ivar
A well renowned smithy with a skeptical look on new faces. He loves teaching and crafting for people who prove themselves worthy of his assistance. He will craft your armor and weapons at a discounted price if you gather the materials yourself.

Leif
A kind-hearted, veteran human fighter who now shelters exotic, magical pets and trains battle animals, Leif offers wisdom and experience to those seeking to bond with creatures of the wild. He may recruit the adventurers for some assistance getting back his stolen rare and endangered animals.

Hildra Ironvein
Forge-Matron of Eyrnhelm. Stern, practical, prideful, and insulted by the thefts.

Jorund Ash-Brow
A retired dragonslayer with a ruined knee and a tangled relationship with age, memory, and pride.

Signe Frostsong
A skald who suspects the dragon's behavior means more than greed.

Vaerak Goldfang
A young dragon building its first hoard from crafted metal rich with artistry, history, and emotional value.

Arc Structure
Step 1: The Quiet Theft
The players investigate broken locks, roof damage, soot, claw marks, and angry smiths. Common iron is ignored. Precious and meaningful metal is targeted.

Step 2: The Watchfire Night
The party guards a forge at night. Snow falls, the village holds its breath, and the dragon tests defenses rather than fully committing. The encounter should be brief, shocking, and awe-inspiring.

Step 3: Tracks into the High Frost
The party follows the dragon into frozen wilderness, hot springs, mountain ravines, and old warning sites. Retired heroes may help with lore or part of the trail.

Step 4: The Hoard of Half-Made Legends
The lair contains ceremonial helm crests, shield bosses, unfinished blades, silver knotwork, heirloom ingots, and melted relics arranged like a throne or burial monument. This reveals that the dragon is obsessed with legacy and craftsmanship, not just wealth.
