Piraeus Overview
Piraeus is the Greek mythology-inspired lively crossroads of Avaris and one of the continent's great trade centers. It is a Greek mythology-inspired coastal city full of merchants, sailors, storytellers, travelers, and dealmakers from all over the world. Compared to the more ancient, severe, or introspective regions of Avaris, Piraeus should feel brighter, more worldly, and more open to possibility.

The city is shaped by bustling markets, busy docks, crowded streets, inns, sea-worn architecture, and constant motion. It is a place where cultures meet, rumors spread, fortunes change hands, and distant horizons always seem to matter. Piraeus should feel colorful, social, noisy, and alive.

Appearance
- one large trade port with docks tying it to the rest of the continent
- crowded harbor activity
- markets full of imported goods and travelers
- weathered buildings shaped by sea air and trade
- a general sense of movement, opportunity, and cultural exchange

Campaign Importance
Piraeus is the only southern route north across Avaris because the Great Cataclysm blocks travel by air between the two halves of the continent. Anyone trying to move between the southern regions and the northern reaches of Eyrnhelm and beyond must eventually deal with maritime routes connected to Piraeus. In this instance, the players should run into Heliodoros as they enter the city gates. Heliodoros will send them on a quest to find his pet octopus in exchange for free passage across the Serpent's maw. Once the players complete his quest, they will be given time to explore the city as they usually would, and Heliodoros will wait for the group near the gates until they are ready to set sail.

Tone Notes
Piraeus should serve as a transitional region where the party can gather information, meet people from many cultures, hear rumors from every corner of Avaris, and prepare for dangerous sea travel. It should also be a place where opportunity and danger exist side by side. The docks are busy, but the sea beyond them is feared. The tone should be heavily inspired by the Odyssey and greek mythology.

Sea Warning
The open waters beyond Piraeus are said to be full of leviathans, pirates, and a number of threats and dangers in the waters. This warning should help frame Piraeus not just as a commercial center, but as the threshold between civilization and the terrifying unknown.
