The Serpent's Maw Overview
The Serpent's Maw is a treacherous sea strait and the only viable route to Eyrnhelm now that the Great Cataclysm blocks safe aerial passage between the southern and northern halves of the continent. It is both a strategic corridor and a death trap.

This passage is infamous throughout Avaris as a hunting ground for colossal sea monsters and a haven for ruthless pirate fleets. Any journey through it should feel dangerous, unpredictable, and legendary.

Appearance
- dark teal waters churn with unnatural violence
- storms often gather in ways that feel wrong
- jagged barnacle-crusted rocks jut out like the teeth of an ancient beast
- the air is thick with salt and decay
- the sea itself should feel hostile, hungry, and difficult to trust

Use in the Campaign
The Serpent's Maw should function as a dangerous transitional zone between Piraeus and Eyrnhelm. It is not merely travel space. It is a set piece for survival, tension, maritime encounters, pirate threats, monster sightings, and the feeling that northbound travel demands real risk. If you complete Heliodoros' quest, he will take you across the Serpent's maw to Eyrnhelm for free, but you will still encounter some monsters along the way.
