Summary of History (Horus Heresy – 005–014.M31)
The I Legion was the Emperor’s first and most experienced Legion, forged in the fires of Terra’s Unification Wars. Upon reuniting with Primarch Lion El’Jonson on the feudal death world of Caliban, the Legion absorbed the planet’s knightly culture and became known as the Dark Angels.
During the Great Crusade they were the Emperor’s foremost weapon — elite, secretive, and uncompromising. They excelled at destroying the most dangerous xenos threats and bringing compliance to the most resistant worlds.
Key events during the Horus Heresy (005–014.M31):
The Legion was split when Horus’s betrayal began. Many Dark Angels were far from Terra.
On Caliban, Luther (the Lion’s second) led a rebellion, fracturing the Legion. This event created the Fallen — Dark Angels who turned against the Lion.
The Lion pursued a brutal campaign through the Ruinstorm, fighting daemonic forces and attempting to reach Terra.
The Dark Angels remained fiercely loyal to the Emperor but were plagued by internal secrecy and paranoia. Their obsession with hunting the Fallen began during this period and would define them for millennia.
They arrived late to the Siege of Terra but fought with ruthless efficiency once they reached the throneworld.
The Dark Angels are defined by secrets, duty, and hidden shame. Their knightly honour coexists with a ruthless willingness to destroy anything that threatens the Legion’s secrets.
Weapons & Tactics
The Dark Angels are highly versatile but favour specialized hunting and combined-arms warfare. They excel at both disciplined line combat and elite strike forces.
Core Tactical Doctrines:
Coordinated strikes using the Hexagrammaton Wings.
Relentless pursuit and extermination of high-value targets.
Heavy use of plasma weaponry and advanced Calibanite technology.
Defensive stands combined with rapid counter-attacks.
Signature Weapons & Formations:
Plasma weapons (especially plasma cannons and incinerators).
Calibanite Pattern Power Weapons, Lion Swords, and relic blades.
Deathwing Terminators — elite heavy assault.
Ravenwing — fast attack bikes and land speeders.
Firewing — hunter-killer squads.
Extensive use of Dreadnoughts and ancient war machines.
