Summary of History (Horus Heresy – 005–014.M31)
The XVI Legion, the Luna Wolves, were Horus’s own Legion and widely considered the premier Astartes force of the Great Crusade. They were the first to be granted the honour of wearing the Emperor’s own colours (white) and earned more battle honours than any other Legion. Under Horus’s brilliant leadership they became the tip of the spear for the Emperor’s conquests.
After Horus was elevated to Warmaster, the Legion was renamed the Sons of Horus in his honour. This marked the beginning of their fall. Horus’s corruption by Chaos, orchestrated by the powers of the Warp and his own growing ambition, turned the Legion into the vanguard of the Traitor cause.
Key events during the Horus Heresy (005–014.M31):
The Luna Wolves/Sons of Horus were at the forefront of the betrayal, striking the first major blow at Isstvan III.
They led the massacre at Isstvan V (Drop Site Massacre), nearly destroying three Loyalist Legions.
The Legion spearheaded multiple major campaigns, including the assault on the Solar System.
During the Siege of Terra, the Sons of Horus formed the tip of the Traitor assault, fighting directly at the Imperial Palace.
Horus’s death at the hands of the Emperor aboard the Vengeful Spirit shattered the Legion. In the aftermath, they became the Black Legion under Abaddon.
The Sons of Horus embody pride, ambition, and tragic fall from grace. They were once the greatest of the Emperor’s warriors and became his most hated enemies.
