Summary of History (Horus Heresy – 005–014.M31)
The XIII Legion was the largest and most disciplined of all Legions. Reunited with Roboute Guilliman on Macragge, they became the model of the Emperor’s ideal Astartes — organised, scholarly, and supremely effective. Guilliman forged the realm of Ultramar, a prosperous pocket empire of 500 worlds governed with enlightened efficiency.
During the Horus Heresy:
The Ultramarines were far from Terra when the betrayal occurred.
They were attacked by the Word Bearers in the Battle of Calth, a devastating ambush that nearly annihilated them. Despite horrific losses, Guilliman rallied the survivors.
Guilliman established the Imperium Secundus as a contingency — a second Imperium in Ultramar with himself, Sanguinius, and Lion El’Jonson as its rulers.
They fought a brutal campaign against the Word Bearers and World Eaters in the Eastern Fringe.
Late in the Heresy, the Ultramarines marched toward Terra, arriving as one of the largest loyalist forces remaining. Guilliman’s strategic genius and organisational skill proved vital in the final defence.
The Ultramarines represent the pinnacle of order, logic, and human potential in a galaxy consumed by madness.
Weapons & Tactics
The Ultramarines favour disciplined, flexible combined-arms warfare. They excel at every form of combat but particularly shine in set-piece battles, defensive actions, and logistical mastery.
Core Tactical Doctrines:
Strict adherence to the Codex Astartes (in development during the Heresy).
Coordinated company-level operations with perfect synchronicity.
Strong emphasis on logistics, supply lines, and rapid reinforcement.
Balanced force composition — no extreme specialisation.
Signature Weapons & Formations:
Bolters, power swords, and disciplined volleys.
Heavy use of Rhino and Land Raider transports.
Invictarii Honour Guard and elite Praetorian formations.
Master-crafted weapons and extensive use of plasma and grav technology.
Highly effective at both defensive stands and methodical advances.
