What was once a single city has now expanded to most of Faerun in this High Fantasy adventure of magic, technology, and secrets to uncover!

Now expanded and reimagined for deeper exploration and immersive play. Waterdeep: The City of Splendors is your main gateway to the other famous Sword Coast locations like Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter, the Moonsea Region, and even the distant reaches of the Outer Planes. While Waterdeep remains the heart of the experience, its surrounding territories are available for those bold enough to venture beyond the city walls. This adaptation builds upon official Forgotten Realms lore, but introduces both minor and major changes to support a more engaging and open-ended campaign. For example, the characters from Baldur’s Gate 3 are playable, but have been recontextualized to exist in Waterdeep rather than Baldur’s Gate. Content is designed for compatibility with Waterdeep: Dragon Heist, Dungeon of the Mad Mage, and a host of original plot hooks waiting to be uncovered across the city’s alleys, taverns, towers, and catacombs. You’re free to explore at your own pace, shape the world as you see fit, or lose yourself in the layered politics, mysteries, and magic of the world. Description

Blackgate serves as one of the Outer City’s busiest and most functional districts, built around the constant flow of goods entering Baldur’s Gate through the Black Dragon Gate. It is a place of carts, crates, and contracts—home to warehouse workers, teamsters, and traders who keep the city supplied. Life here is transactional and fast-paced, shaped by schedules, ledgers, and hard labor. Order comes not from law, but from necessity.

Appearance

Dusty roads run between massive warehouses and open loading yards, their walls stacked with crates marked for distant markets. Timber-framed inns and supply shops crowd near the gate, flanked by rows of stables and wagon lots. Workers of all kinds—dwarves, half-orcs, gnomes, humans—haul goods, haggle over prices, or eat meals on overturned barrels. The city wall looms nearby, its gate open but watched. The air is dry, thick with the smell of sweat, hay, and sun-warmed wood.
