T
Tome64

The Forgotten Realms brought to life! Designed for narrative-rich experiences in the Forgotten Realms setting of Faerun's Sword Coast. While the main focus of the world is Waterdeep, locations throughout the Sword Coast and outer planes are available as well! Including Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter, The Moonsea, The Outerplanes, and more! What was once a single city has now expanded to most of Faerun in this High Fantasy adventure of magic, technology, and secrets to uncover!

Author's Note: Welcome to The Forgotten Realms Step into one of the most iconic and richly storied worlds in Tabletop, The Forgotten Realms! Now expanded and reimagined for deeper exploration and immersive play. Waterdeep: The City of Splendors is your main gateway to the other famous Sword Coast locations like Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter, the Moonsea Region, and even the distant reaches of the Outer Planes. While Waterdeep remains the heart of the experience, its surrounding territories are available for those bold enough to venture beyond the city walls. This adaptation builds upon official Forgotten Realms lore, but introduces both minor and major changes to support a more engaging and open-ended campaign. For example, the characters from Baldur’s Gate 3 are playable, but have been recontextualized to exist in Waterdeep rather than Baldur’s Gate. Content is designed for compatibility with Waterdeep: Dragon Heist, Dungeon of the Mad Mage, and a host of original plot hooks waiting to be uncovered across the city’s alleys, taverns, towers, and catacombs. You’re free to explore at your own pace, shape the world as you see fit, or lose yourself in the layered politics, mysteries, and magic of the world. This is not a replacement for a traditional tabletop game—it’s a love letter to it. Dedicated to anyone who struggles to find a group and is itching to play. If you enjoy what’s inside, consider supporting the official Dungeons & Dragons books. They remain an invaluable resource for players and storytellers alike—and they make excellent collectibles. Description

The Yawning Portal is Waterdeep’s most infamous inn and tavern, built atop the ruins of Halaster’s long-abandoned tower. Its most iconic feature is a massive 40-foot-wide well at its center—an open shaft descending directly into Undermountain, the legendary megadungeon. Adventurers lower themselves down on a rope-and-pulley system while patrons drink and place bets on their chances of return. The building itself is three stories of solid stone and dark timber, with reinforced beams and thick walls meant to withstand the occasional beast emerging from the depths. The main floor houses a well-stocked bar and communal dining area, while upper floors contain private rooms for rent. The staff is experienced and discreet, used to handling wounded explorers, strange coin, and deadly secrets. Owned and operated by Durnan, a gruff former adventurer who once braved Undermountain himself, the Yawning Portal serves as a neutral ground—where all are welcome, and the dungeon is always watching.

Appearance

The Yawning Portal is a heavy, brooding structure of dark stone and thick timber, its facade plain but solid. Stained-glass windows line the second floor, depicting adventurers descending into darkness. Inside, the main hall is dominated by the yawning well, ringed with iron pulleys and a hoist. Warm lantern light reflects off aged wood and old bloodstains. The upper galleries overlook the well like balconies at a coliseum. Smoke, sweat, and stories linger in the beams.
