Protocol: The Hollow-Watch (N77 Internal Affairs)

Codename: "The Empty Eye"

Operational Mandate: Maintenance of the "Still Point" and summary termination of Dissonant Units.

In a faction that weaponizes Controlled Decay, the line between an elite operative and a localized catalyst for the Hollowing is paper-thin. The Hollow-Watch is the invisible scalpel that ensures Unit-77 does not become the very infection it seeks to excise. They are the "Secret within the Secret," answerable only to the King Protocol.

  • The Checkmate Trigger: Every N77 operative is implanted with a specialized resonance-burst charge at the base of the skull, keyed to the frequency of their specific squad role. The Hollow-Watch monitors these frequencies remotely. If an operative’s biological signature begins to "harmonize" too closely with the Hollowing—a state known as The Melismatic Peak—the Watch triggers a "Checkmate." The charge detonates, not with fire, but with a burst of absolute silence that collapses the operative’s physical form into a non-reactive pile of inert carbon.

  • The Inquisitor’s Gambit: Within each three-man squad, the Knight is often conditioned with a secondary, subconscious mandate. Should the King Protocol’s signal be severed, the Knight becomes the temporary arbiter of the Hollow-Watch. They are trained to recognize the "Mirror-Look" in their teammates—the exact moment a Rook or Bishop stops fighting the Void and begins to welcome it.

  • The Isolation Ward: Operatives who survive high-exposure missions are remanded to the Hollow-Watch for "Re-Tuning." This involves days of sensory deprivation in chambers lined with Pre-Vyrn "Quiet-Stone" to strip away the lingering echoes of the Hollowing. Those who cannot be re-tuned are "promoted" to the King Protocol or silenced permanently.

Manifest: The Resonance Divisions

Unit-77 does not place its hopes in a single point of failure. While Codename: Obelisk represents the tip of the spear in active retrieval, they are part of a broader, compartmentalized strategy. Each division—or "Array"—is tasked with a different fundamental theory on how to mute the Hollowing.

1. Codename: Obelisk (The Retrievers)

  • Primary Objective: Artifact Acquisition and "Primal Frequency" Mapping.

  • Tactical Focus: Deep-plane incursions into the most unstable Coherence Zones.

  • Current Lead: They are hunting for the Larynx of the First Drow, an ancient acoustic amplifier rumored to be capable of projecting a "Counter-Song" across the entire Vyrn-Kalath system. They are the "Shepards" of the physical relics.

2. Codename: Monolith (The Architects)

  • Primary Objective: Structural Fortification and the "Engine of the First Drow."

  • Tactical Focus: Long-term occupation of "Dead-Air" zones.

  • Current Lead: Unlike Obelisk, Monolith squads do not return to the Void-Base. They are tasked with finding the shattered remains of the World-Engine, a Pre-Vyrn planetary stabilizer. Their mission is to "rebuild the board" by anchoring the physical world so firmly that the Hollowing can no longer vibrated through it. They are the "Shepards" of the foundations.

3. Codename: Sarcophagus (The Saboteurs)

  • Primary Objective: Void-Sealing and Internal Disruption.

  • Tactical Focus: One-way deployments into the heart of the Hollowing.

  • Current Lead: Sarcophagus units are the most decayed of all N77 operatives. Their mission is to find the "Anchor Points" where The Thing is physically tethered to the system and plant Acoustic Black Holes. Their lead suggests that the Hollowing is being "broadcast" from a specific coordinate in the Deep Chorus; they intend to find the "microphone" and shatter it from the inside. They are the "Shepards" of the end.

4. Codename: Cenotaph (The Archivists)

  • Primary Objective: Data Recovery and Echo-Mapping.

  • Tactical Focus: Stealth and Observation.

  • Current Lead: These squads follow in the wake of failed missions. If a Monolith or Obelisk squad goes "Quiet," Cenotaph is sent to recover their Graft-Logs and memory cores. They believe that the failures of previous "Shepards" contain the final variables needed to complete the math of the Final Muting.

The Board is Set. While the Knightly Orders die for honor on the surface, these squads move through the shadows of reality, each chasing a different sliver of hope. If one fails, the others continue; if all succeed, the world might finally know a moment of silence.
