Refugees—survivors or "Deleted" citizens

THE UNDER-BOARD: REFUGEE TRAFFICKING AND THE STATIC UNDERWORLD

While the Grand Board broadcasts a high-definition lie of "Absolute Protocol," the foundation of the Adamant Anchorage is riddled with a shadow economy. This is the Under-Board—a sprawling, unmapped network of ventilation shafts, abandoned foundry levels, and "Dead-Zones" where the Gantry’s signal fails.

Here, the currency is not labor-hours or credits, but Anonymity.

I. The "Glitched" Refugees: The Off-Grid Exodus

The system’s rigid birth-designation leaves no room for the displaced. Refugees—survivors from collapsed orbital habitats or "Deleted" citizens—flock to the Anchorage seeking safety, only to find they do not exist in the eyes of the Gantry.

  • Ghost-Freight: Traffickers known as "Load-Shifters" smuggle refugees inside the hollowed-out chassis of heavy industrial drones. To the automated sensors of the Rooks, these are merely routine shipments of ore. To the refugees inside, it is a suffocating journey in total darkness, praying the "Scan-Maskers" don't flicker.

  • The Identity Tithe: Entry into the Under-Board isn't free. Refugees are forced to surrender their "Biometric Data" to underworld syndicates. These stolen identities are then "Cleaned" and sold to Sovereign Tier criminals looking for a disposable digital skin.

II. The "Solder-Gangs" (The Underworld Structure)

The underworld is not a chaos; it is a mirror-image of the Board, far more brutal and lean.

  1. The Signal-Jammers: The "Kings" of the slums. They maintain illegal Mesh-Nets that allow the underworld to communicate without being flagged by the Bishop’s Curated Clergy. They "sell" signal-bars like water in a desert.

  2. The Wire-Pullers: Middle-men who manage the "Pawn-Lease" markets. They "rent" undocumented refugees to desperate mid-tier corporations who need labor that doesn't officially exist—jobs too dangerous for "Verified" citizens.

  3. The Scrap-Sharks: The muscle. They scavenge "Dead-Data" and whisper-metal scraps from the foundry floors. They are often failed Knights or "Ex-Rooks" whose integrated armor has begun to reject their bodies, leaving them scarred and twitchy.

III. The Trafficking of "Bio-Assets"

In a world of digital immortality, the most valuable resource is Raw Biology.

  • Organ-Staking: For the Sovereign Tier, living forever requires a steady supply of compatible "Bio-Parts." The Under-Board facilitates a "Red-Market" where refugees are harvested for parts. These transactions are hidden behind "Glitch-Clouds" to keep the Knight’s 8K broadcast pristine and bloodless.

  • Neural-Siphoning: Desperate Pawns sell their "Memory-Capacity" to the underworld. Traffickers "wipe" a refugee's mind and use their brain as a high-speed processor for illegal crypto-mining or AI-shackling. The victim is left as a "Hollow-Shell"—alive, but with no data left in their skull.

IV. The Arena of Shadows: The "Un-Broadcast"

While the Arena of Echoes features the shining Knights of the Adamant Crown, the Under-Board hosts the Un-Broadcast.

  • The Stakes: These are "Death-Matches" fought in the dark, where the losers aren't "corrected" by a soul-judging lance, but are simply scrapped for parts.

  • The Viewers: Ironically, the primary audience for these brutal, grainy, low-FPS feeds is the Sovereign Tier. Bored by the scripted chivalry of the official games, the elite pay massive premiums to watch "Real Weight" being thrown in the pits of the Under-Board.

V. The "Static-Cure"

In the underworld, the Bliss-Link is replaced by a street-drug called "Static." It is a concentrated burst of raw, unfiltered whisper-metal frequency.

  • The Effect: It briefly "unplugs" the user from the Grand Board's tracking, making them invisible to the Gantry’s sensors for an hour.

  • The Cost: Every dose causes "Neural-Fraying." Eventually, the user becomes a "Permanent Glitch"—a person whose physical form begins to blur and flicker in the eyes of others, until they eventually vanish into the "Dead-Data" of the system.

Underworld Proverb: "The Spires have the light, but the Slums have the truth. In the light, you're a pawn. In the dark, you're a ghost. And ghosts don't have to follow the Board."
