Old Harbor, Passage Anywhere

What is going on here (GM only)

Old Harbor in Reykjavik is the busiest port in the North Atlantic and the home dock of the Salt Fleet. Ships leave here for every continent. Zombies cannot swim, so the sea is the safest road on Earth.

The Salt Fleet runs on money and trust. Magnus Olafsson is getting old and does not like to talk about who will take over. The captains watch each other and wait. Some captains carry smuggled Booster Shots for the Marked, if the pay is good. Einar Dahl knows which ones. He takes small bribes for better berths and sells gossip to the right people.

The Northern Commonwealth shares Reykjavik with the Fleet. Its council, led by Katrin Jonsdottir, keeps some northern islands closed and will not say why. One of them holds Brekka Station, where the Z-Virus began. The council keeps the station files locked in the cellar of Hofdi Council Hall.

The people and what they want

  • Captain Ingrid Solberg of the Tern. She sails to any continent for the right price and does not change a price once she sets it. She has sailed to Cape Town, Honolulu, Lisbon and the Gulf of Mexico. She takes passengers who pass her blood test. Salt Fleet rules put Mutated in a locked hold for double fare, and she does not like it.

  • Einar Dahl, the dockmaster. He loves lists, numbers and order. He is loyal to the harbor more than to any captain or council.

  • Magnus Olafsson, the Fleet Master, on the Northern Star. He keeps every promise and never forgives a broken deal. He thinks the sea belongs to the Fleet.

  • Katrin Jonsdottir, chair of the Commonwealth council at Hofdi Council Hall. She decides who may land on the islands.

  • Gunnar Sigurdsson, gate captain at Ellidaar Gate, the land gate of the city.

Where it can go

  1. Sail anywhere. Passage costs a lot. Players can pay, or work their passage on the Tern. Cape Town, Honolulu and the ports of Europe are each one voyage away.

  2. Who takes over. Magnus will not name who comes after him. The captains are choosing sides, and players who work for one captain get pulled in.

  3. Smuggled Boosters. Some ships carry Boosters for the Marked. Players can take the money, turn the smugglers in, or help them.

  4. The closed islands. Sailors say the Commonwealth keeps boats away from some northern islands. People at Tromso Research Dock ask the same questions.

  5. Heat and power. The city depends on Hellisheidi Power Plant. Its parts come by Salt Fleet ship, and a lost shipment is a crisis.

Dangers nearby

  • Reykjavik is a clean stronghold. Zombies are almost never seen inside. The dangers are storms, pirates and people.

  • Pirates attack ships in port and at sea. Use Raider and Raider Boss for them.

  • Cold. The winter is long and dark, and the sea is deadly to anyone who falls in.

  • Undead found on a ship are thrown into the sea. Mutated who try to land are sent back to their ship.
