The Salt Fleet is a company of sea traders with old ships. Its ships are the only regular travel between the continents. Zombies cannot swim, so the open sea is the safest place on Earth.
Its two home ports are Reykjavik in Iceland and Honolulu in Hawaii. Its ships call at clean islands and walled ports around the world, such as Cape Town, Wellington and Suva.
Magnus Olafsson, 61, male, is the Fleet Master. He owns the largest ship, keeps the ship list and sets the sea routes. Each ship is run by its own captain. At Old Harbor in Reykjavik, Captain Ingrid Solberg and dockmaster Einar Dahl are well known.
The Salt Fleet wants profit and safe harbors. It wants ports that do not rob it, and it wants pirates off the sea.
Anyone who can pay can buy passage or cargo space. Passage costs a lot. Captains blood test every passenger before boarding. Crew who break ship rules are left at the next port.
Mutated may travel in a locked hold for double fare. Undead found on board are thrown into the sea.
Passage, cargo space and goods from other continents. Salt, dried fish, coffee, tobacco, medicine and news from overseas. The Fleet buys fuel, rope, canvas, food and repairs.
Allies. The Northern Commonwealth, the Pacific Islands Union and Cape Wall, whose harbors keep it alive. Lifeline and the Gate Compact are good customers.
Neutral. Some captains carry smuggled Boosters for the Marked, if the pay is good.
Enemies. Pirates and raiders who attack ships in port.
There is no special stat block for the Salt Fleet. Sailors use the Scavenger stat block. Ship guards use the Deserter Soldier stat block in sailor clothes. Pirates who attack them use Raider and Raider Boss.
