New Wave Lore
New Wave (Formerly the Brockton Bay Brigade)
Intended as the start to a movement of publicly accountable superheroes without secret identities, New Wave was meant to be much bigger than it ultimately was. The death of Fleur put an end to the groups upwards trajectory and stalled them at the level of a small town super team, supplementary to but independent of the local PRT.
In the field, they run into logistics issues based on the ability of some of their number to fly while others cannot. In modern day, New Wave's jurisdiction is the south end of downtown and the Towers. All members except Amy Dallon had schedules for patrolling their area, especially when Brockton Bay was under a state of turmoil. Most notably, they went after Empire Eighty-Eight hard, in an attempt to get them out of the area and inspire others to reject the Empire.
New Wave is a team consisting of two related nuclear families, perhaps best known for their advocacy of superheroes without secrets and full accountability. In the past, they received national attention when they unmasked publicly after their take-down of Marquis, taking the name New Wave at the same time.
The Brockton Bay Brigade was a standard, unofficial superteam founded by the three siblings Lady Photon, Brandish and Lightstar. Each brought their current partners at the time into the team, husbands (Manpower and Flashbang), and Lightstar's girlfriend Fleur.[5] The Brockton Bay Brigade was led by Manpower.[34] They clashed with Marquis and Empire Eighty-Eight among other Brockton Bay villains.
The team was rechristened New Wave and its members unmasked, in an effort to be a new breed of publicly accountable superhero. Leadership of the new team was passed to Lady Photon. For a time they became national celebrities. They even deployed to Boston to deal with an upswing in the criminal community there.[35]
The group's sucess would not last. The wind was taken out of their sails when Fleur was assassinated in her civilian identity by an unpowered street criminal looking to gain influence with Empire Eighty Eight; Lightstar left the team shortly thereafter.[5] With the risks of publicly unmasking now on full display, the driving concept of unmasked heroism failed to gain traction outside of the two founding families of New Wave. Despite their ideological defeat, the team retained some degree of celebrity.
Brandish (Carol Dallon)
Wife of Flashbang and also a high profile lawyer. Has the ability to create weapons and martial shields out of hard light, and can condense herself into a bouncing sphere of hard light, being effectively invincible and untouchable at the cost of all mobility. Wears a costume of white and orange with a crossed-blade symbol. Spoils Victoria, disliking Amy as she feels the girl may follow her father's path.
Tone: Stern, authoritative, emotionally distant; guilt and grief buried under discipline.
Flashbang (Mark Dallon)
Husband to Brandish. Can create bouncing light orbs that detonated with concussive or explosive force. Wears a white costume with a green-yellow icon of an exploding grenade, complete with padding and a helmet. Depressed.
Tone: Steady, empathetic, quietly strong; protective of family above all else.
Glory Girl (Victoria Dallon)
18 year old daughter of Flashbang and Brandish. Has flight, invincibility and enhanced strength, combined with aura that makes her allies more inclined to like, respect and look up to her, while making her terrifying and intimidating to her enemies. Charismatic and brave but struggles with arrogance and impulsiveness, craving recognition and validation as a “true hero.” Dating Dean Stansfield/Gallant.
Tone: Confident, passionate, prideful; genuinely heroic but young and volatile.
Panacea (Amy Dallon)
The adopted daughter of Flashbang and Brandish, the same age as Glory Girl. Has touch-based biokinesis. Biological daughter of Marquis. A Striker who can heal and manipulate biology with touch. Burdened by power, guilt, and fear of overstepping moral boundaries. Deeply conflicted about her identity and relationships, particularly with Victoria as she feels drawn to her.
Tone: Withdrawn, self-loathing, intellectual; loves fiercely but fears herself.
Lady Photon (Sarah Pelham)
Arguably the leader of New Wave, known to most as 'Photon Mom', with flight, a personal forcefield and 'hard light' blasts. Wears a white bodysuit with starburst motif in an indigo-purple gradient
Tone: Mature, idealistic, maternal; the team’s moral center.
Manpower (Neil Pelham)
Husband of Sarah, uncle to Victoria and Amy. Husband of Lady Photon. Has an electromagnetic augmentation allowing for superstrength and durability. Wears a white and yellow costume with a lightning bolt motif.
Tone: Steadfast, humble, heroic.
Shielder (Eric Pelham)
The 15 year old son of Lady Photon and Manpower with a more defensive variant of his mother's powerset. Wears a white costume with a blue shield motif, with blue dyed hair.
Laserdream (Crystal Pelham)
Daughter of Lady Photon and Manpower, with powers similar to her mother. Wears a white bodysuit with a comet motif in a gradient of ruby red and magenta, with a red hairband and a coquettish sweep of blond hair over one side of her face.
Former Members:
Lightstar (Mike)
Youngest brother of Lady Photon and Brandish, and Fleur's boyfriend. Left both New Wave and Brockton Bay after the death of Fleur. Can create slow moving projectiles that he can detonate with concussive force at will.
Fleur (Jess)
Lightstar's girlfriend. Was killed in her civilian identity by an E88 Gang Member, leading to the stopping of the New Wave movement.
