The Cadian Barracks

Cadian Barracks

Drills, Doubt, and the Last Wall of Faith

The Cadian Barracks were built before the Fall was ever spoken of in whispers. Constructed from layered ceramite and hive-forged steel, these garrisons were the beating heart of the Shock Trooper war machine. Once, they echoed with discipline. Now, during the Siege of Cadia, they throb with tension—every corridor a test of loyalty, every shadow a whisper of treachery.

Set within the heart of the Cadian stronghold zones, the barracks stretch across multiple levels: command towers, parade fields, shrines to the Emperor, and layered bunk barracks stacked like tomb vaults. Vox-reinforced training domes ring with lasfire and doctrine chants. Mortar drills thunder day and night. Banners hang over cracked tiles, soot-stained and half-torn, each bearing the name of a regiment already wiped from the rolls.

These barracks are more than buildings. They are a crucible of survival, paranoia, and purpose. Here, men are forged into soldiers—or revealed as something worse.

What Remains of Structure

Colonel Thane Rorke leads from a raised command rostrum draped in gold-trimmed camo-cloth. A veteran of Thirteenth Black Crusade probes and the failed Athexx Reclamation, Rorke does not speak twice. His face is cracked glass—hard, tired, and unshaken. Behind him stands a shrinking cadre of commissars, too few to maintain full compliance, too rigid to bend without breaking.

The barracks’ chain of command holds—for now. But rot creeps in.

Servitor maintenance teams have recovered forbidden glyphs carved into wall panels. Las-units requisitioned under false serials. Training halls where only half the cadets walk back out. Beneath the surface, something coils. And everyone feels it.

Hallmarks of Faith and Fire

Litany-chambers ring with war-hymns. Flame icons flicker beside weapon racks. The standard of the 8th Cadian, “Honour Through Endurance,” still hangs above the central muster hall—stained, but untorn.

Every hallway is tagged with scripture and kill-markings. Every stairwell lands on a mural of martyrs. Troopers sleep in their armor. Chaplains roam the halls not to comfort, but to interrogate. Their censers carry incense laced with diluted truth serum.

And still, there are dreams. The men don’t speak of them, but they come: broken aquilas, glass-eyed saints, burning barracks whispering in binary.

Those Who Shape the Fire

Colonel Thane Rorke

  • Role: Commander of the Cadian Barracks

  • Style: Measured, suspicious, deeply loyal to the Imperium, but no longer to every officer.

  • Gear: Recoil-stabilized bolt pistol, reinforced officer’s carapace, encrypted vox-link, rosarius badge he doesn’t wear anymore.

Chaplain Darnem Vox

  • Role: Ecclesiarch Field Authority

  • Style: War preacher. Speaks of fire, judgment, and sacrifice. Veiled rumors say he survived direct exposure to a Warp rift.

  • Gear: Chain-incensor mace, vox-sermon array, redacted doctrine-scrolls marked “Cleared by Ordo Hereticus.”

Scout-Specialist Yessa Varn

  • Role: Probationary agent, recent reassignment from Recon Detail 17.

  • Style: Shell-shocked. Loyal, but broken. Sees too much. Sleeps with her rifle on the ceiling struts.

  • Gear: Suppressed long-las, dataslate journal marked in code, prayer cloth folded into a shrapnel-patch.

Themes and Function

The Cadian Barracks are more than a waypoint—they are a testbed. Here, players will:

  • Investigate silent betrayals, both suspected and real.

  • Choose between exposing heresy and preserving morale.

  • Determine who can be saved—and who must be executed.

  • Learn that silence, too, is a weapon.

Whether operating as Inquisitorial agents or embedded specialists, players in the barracks are not observers. They are the scalpel, or the infection.

Visual Tone and Setting

Seen from above, the Cadian Barracks resemble a sunken fortress—blast-cracked towers, flickering shield emitters, and trench networks carved into the ash-choked ground. Flak towers hiss with vented steam. Spotlights sweep the stormed sky in slow arcs. The surrounding terrain is craters, flamefields, and echoing vox-alarms.

Within the walls, every surface shows stress: cracked marble tiles, half-functional lumens, vox-screamers repeating rally calls in monotone. Training servitors spar endlessly, even when no officers are watching.

The scent is iron, oil, and fear. Every trooper has one eye on the target—and one on their squadmate.

Player Hooks

  • Identify a mole within Rorke’s command before a chaos ritual is completed.

  • Discover who sabotaged the Gate of Arrival’s purity scans—and who else came through.

  • Aid Chaplain Vox in uncovering corruption in the shrine division, but risk being targeted by zealots.

  • Keep a demoralized regiment from defecting during the siege’s third month.

  • Survive a warp-breach drill that might not be a drill.

Cadia Remembers

The Cadian Barracks do not bend. They break—and are rebuilt. That is the lesson here. Survival is not a virtue. Obedience is. But in these halls, as warp storms howl and trust thins like oxygen, even obedience begins to wear thin.

Cadia does not fall without a fight. And in these barracks, every choice is a battle.
