The Fallen Spire

The Fallen Spire

Corpse of a Hive, Bone of the Ash

Once the proud central tower of Hive Secundus, the Fallen Spire lies shattered across the Ash Wastes—ten kilometers of collapsed steel bones, broken hab-decks, and twisted plasteel ribs rotting in the open air. Its fall was not quick. As the Genestealer infestation within Secundus reached critical mass, orbital bombardments and structural sabotage shattered the spire from its foundation. It did not implode. It buckled sideways, tearing through lower zones and burying thousands in its fall.

Now it sprawls like a corpse too large to bury. The husk is filled with secrets, survivors, scavengers, and worse.

Environment and Physical Layout

The spire’s body forms a linear mega-dungeon of opportunity and risk. Exterior breaches lead into rusted corridors, gravity-twisted chambers, and vertical sections now traversed as horizontal pathways. Transit rails dangle like veins. Hab-decks sit crushed at angles. Power conduits glow faintly, fed by dying capacitors.

  • Length: ~10 km collapsed span across the Wastes

  • Height at Origin: Originally 5.7 km upright

  • Zones within: Medical decks, spire vaults, manufactorum wings, chapel complexes, data-crypts, noble quarters, xenos nests, collapsed mag-trains

Lighting & Atmosphere:

  • Interior corridors are lit sporadically by flickering lumen strips, emergency nodes, and burning refuse.

  • Air grows hotter and more rancid with depth. Oxygen thins. Fungal growths spread unchecked.

  • The soundscape is constant: dripping fluid, creaking metal, chittering claws, whispered machine-vox echoes.

Inhabitants and Factions

Genestealer Remnants

Threat Level: Severe
Not all were killed in the bombardment. Broodnests still fester within deeper chambers. Hybrids scout the upper wrecks for prey. Purestrains haunt the dark vaults below.

  • Brood Patriarch Xyr’thall: Still active, telepathically guiding a splinter cult in the power core zone.

Human Scavenger Gangs

Threat Level: Variable
Small crews seeking tech, relics, or loot. Often armed with scrap weapons and makeshift rebreathers. Will ally for survival—or turn if desperate.

  • Gang: The Coilborn – Led by a scarred ex-hive enforcer named Jurn Vox. Operate from the admin deck ruins. Known to sell finds to Ash Guilds.

Rogue Tech-Priests

Threat Level: Moderate to High
Mechanicus exiles or radical factions seeking lost STCs and forbidden knowledge. Some revere the fallen spire as a “dying god’s tongue.”

  • Magos Ur-Vectoris – Crippled but brilliant. Maintains a perimeter using corrupted servitors and whisper-cant.

Nests of Feral Xenos

Threat Level: Unpredictable
Beasts mutated by warp spill or feeder growths from the Genestealer strain. Ambush hunters, egg-layers, tunneling serpents. Areas become unsafe fast.

  • Confirmed Sightings: Spine-worm clusters, rad-gorgers, synapse leeches

Key Locations Within the Fallen Spire

1. The Hollow Core

Collapsed generatorum chamber, flooded with coolant and echoing with ghost-light. Arc flashes still burst across the core pylons. Dangerous, but untouched.

Hook: Tech-salvage job; Magos Vectoris wants it cleared of creatures nesting in the coolant ducts.

2. The Severed Choir

A vaulted chapel now tilted sideways, its organ pipes split open and dangling like ribs. Redemptionist markings clash with heretical blood-glyphs.

Inhabitants: A deranged preacher and his “choir” of servo-skulls play hymns to no audience. They obey old rites… and kill interrupters.

3. Vault Array Theta

Once a noble family’s panic bunker, now half-sealed. Rumors claim it holds an emergency black box from Hive Secundus’ upper command. The door requires high-level clearance or brute force.

Hook: The Inquisition wants this opened.

4. The Spine Trams

Collapsed transit tunnels that still link several internal zones. Grav-magnetic pull makes traversal disorienting. Walls buzz with intermittent power.

Hazard: These routes are used by Genestealer scouts and often trapped. Movement triggers defense servitors—long uncalibrated.

5. The Wombyard

Nest core. The spore-womb of the brood. Covered in resin, twitching sacs, and gestating hybrids. Purestrain lies dormant at its center—waiting.

Player Warning: Avoid until fully prepared. This is endgame-tier threat level.

Gameplay Use & Integration

The Fallen Spire is a campaign-long ruin-crawl zone where exploration is as dangerous as combat. It’s part urban horror, part scavenger thriller, and part tactical war zone.

Themes to Emphasize:

  • Desperation and paranoia: The longer players stay inside, the more they risk.

  • Dark discovery: Strange logs, failed experiments, dying signals, and the slow uncovering of Hive Secundus’ betrayal.

  • Faction leverage: Bringing findings back out can change the balance of power in Necromunda.

Mechanical Rules Suggestions:

  • Random Event Table every extended rest within the spire

  • Contamination counters (for Genestealer spores, psychic pressure, or radiation exposure)

  • Gear decay: weapons and armor suffer attrition from rust, filth, or acid damage

  • Dynamic map layers: Some areas shift due to collapses or roaming monsters

Final Notes

The Fallen Spire is not dead. It’s changing. Living.

The Inquisition suspects psychic feedback from the Eye of Terror has begun to twist its core. Time bends oddly within. Machines behave… strangely. Those who stay too long begin to dream of other stars, of claws, and of hymns that should not be sung.

The question isn’t “what brought the spire down.”

It’s “what crawled up afterward.”
