Calendar of Aethertide

The Calendar of Aethertide

Era Naming: AE — After the Exodus

The current era, AE (After the Exodus), begins from the year when the last skybridges collapsed and the Leviathan Wars ended a cataclysm that forced the remnants of land empires to flee fully to the seas. The Exodus is seen as both a reckoning and rebirth, when mortals became truly ocean-bound.

“872 AE” marks 872 years since the skies closed and the tides became sovereign.

Structure of the Year

🌀 Cycles

Time in @Aethertide flows in Cycles, not months. Each year has 12 Cycles of Tides, each corresponding to a moon phase, tidal season, and magical current. These are:

  1. Dawning Drift – Season of new voyages and first tides.

  2. Mistwake – Season of illusions, fogs, and veiled shores.

  3. Stormreach – Storm season; when the Stormcallers hold grand rituals.

  4. Bloomwake – Kelp blooms, coral spawning, fertility rites.

  5. Leviathan Moon – When the great sea titans migrate.

  6. Brightwake – Season of trade winds and open sea festivals.

  7. Saltburn – The sunniest and driest cycle; dangerous reefs are exposed.

  8. Sirenfall – Peak ghost current activity; many sailors disappear.

  9. Deepcall – The darkest, most spiritual time; deep-sea rites and shadow magic.

  10. Tidebind – Renewal rituals and covenant celebrations.

  11. Chainfall – Time of remembrance for the Age of Chains; ruins awaken.

  12. Cradlewake – End of the year; storytelling season, memory rites, and rest.

Moons of Aethertide

Aethertide’s sky holds three moons, all influencing magic and tide:

  • Selunae – The Silver Eye. Strongest tide-puller. Rituals are held on its full cycle.

  • Thalor – The Deep Eye. Faint and blue. Associated with prophecy, the Spiral Prophet, and Cartomancy.

  • Verakos – The Crimson Scar. Blood-moon of curses, war, and the Drowned King.

Each Cycle aligns with the waxing and waning of these moons, giving rise to lunar festivals or warnings. The 5th Moon refers to the 5th Cycle — Leviathan Moon.

📜 Timekeeping Conventions

  • “Cycle of Sirenfall” = A poetic way of marking months.

  • “5th Moon, Year 872 AE” = Short for: "During the 5th Cycle of the 872nd year After the Exodus."

A formal date might read:

“On the 12th day of Leviathan Moon, in the 872nd Year After the Exodus, the tide turned bloodless in Coral Crown.”
