Drownedkin
Origins:
The @Drownedkin are not born—they return. Their souls are caught in the spiral-tide of the Below, rising from the sea's memory as warped echoes of their former selves. Most were once sailors, pirates, priests, or outcasts who died with unfinished oaths, cursed artifacts, or regrets too heavy to sink. The @Thrice-Drowned Court reclaims them, shaping their forms into spectral hybrids of mortal, myth, and abyss.
Some legends say the first @Drownedkin were created by the Tidemother herself, to serve as stewards of the ocean’s grief.
Philosophy:
To be @Drownedkin is to accept that death is not the end—it’s the debt. Every breath, every memory, every oath is weight. Their creed: "What sinks returns. What returns must remember."
They value oaths, memory, and consequence. Lies are anathema, but silence is sacred. Vengeance and forgiveness are often the same act.
Training:
Drownedkin youth (or newly-awakened echoes) undergo rites such as:
Tide Awakening: The moment of soul-anchoring when they bind to a memory.
Echo Trials: Reliving a past life’s trauma to learn control.
Oath-Scribing: The first vow made in coral-glyph ink, sealing identity.
Scar Communion: Listening to the Leviathan Scar’s pulse for guidance.
Role in Aethertide:
Drownedkin serve @The Below and often emerge to the surface for:
Oath Enforcement: Recovering stolen memory-anchors or punishing oathbreakers.
Collectors: Reclaiming souls or relics tied to the Court’s ledgers.
Spies & Emissaries: Appearing in surface ports as prophetic agents.
Tideguardians: Protecting sacred shipwrecks and myth-forges.
Signature Traits:
Semi-fluid or coral-encrusted forms, often with visible aquatic mutations.
Communicate emotion and memory through touch or hum.
Eyes that reflect forgotten truths.
Leave faint spectral ripples when walking.

"We don’t forget. That’s why we return."
"The sea doesn’t need forgiveness. Only memory."
"Speak your oath, or it will speak you."
Drownedkin are not ghosts, not monsters, not truly alive. They are remembrance given shape—the unforgotten storm of all the sea refused to lose.
