Tidewright

Known as Ridewrights or Tidewrights, these ingenious gnomes hail from the vibrant and aromatic @Myrrh Atolls where steam meets sea and magic fuses with invention. Tidewright Gnomes are the master crafters of Aethertide—arcano-nautical engineers, creators of clockwork sea beasts, enchanted hulls, and storm-channeling devices.

Small in stature, vast in imagination—they build the future upon the water.

Appearance

  • Typically 3 to 4 feet tall, with quick fingers and sharper eyes

  • Skin tones often sun-warmed bronze or olive, with hair dyed bright by chemical spills or magic pigments

  • Always adorned in multi-pocketed tool-leathers, often scorched or rune-etched

  • Goggles, belts, and miniature familiars are common accessories

Culture & Society

The Tidewrights believe in function over tradition, though their guilds are steeped in rich (and competitive) invention lore:

  • Guild-houses are floating workshops, shipyards, or hollowed-out coral engines

  • Names are earned through deeds—often replaced with titles like Sparkweld, Hullthread, or Boombless

  • Religion is rare, but some worship minor spirits of gear, wave, or kinetic force

Gnomish festivals feature explosive boat parades, dancing mechanical gulls, and cloud-swirled alchemical drinks.

Roles in Aethertide

Tidewright Gnomes are:

  • Chief engineers aboard pirate, merchant, and even Veythane vessels

  • Deck mages blending mechanical and arcane systems

  • Beastwrights who build clockwork dolphins, jellyfish lanterns, or armor-plated sea turtles

Many are employed at @The Leviathaneum , Tidewatch’s shipwright enclave, or roam the isles in mobile forges.

Regions & Reach

Their heartland is the @Myrrh Atolls , but Tidewrights are found across:

  • @Tidewatch City , especially in @The Shatterloop Crucible

  • @Rusthaven , where scrap becomes salvation

  • @Smokehome , sharing rune-tech with dwarves (when they can agree)

Some have even partnered with the @The Brackish Consortium —illegally, of course.

Innovations & Traits

  • Stormflask Wielders – Carry self-pressurized lightning cells for energy or attack

  • Waverender Boots – Custom footwear that skims short distances across water

  • Familiars – Tiny automaton creatures acting as companions, recorders, or tools

  • Scrapcasting – Gnomes improvise spells using nearby materials, with unpredictable brilliance

"We don’t build ships. We build what ships dream of becoming."

Tidewright Gnomes don’t just keep Aethertide moving—they push it where it never thought to go. Loudly. Brilliantly. And with a little smoke.
