The @Mandate of Light represents the most profound ideological schism from the old Endless Unity. Where the Unity was built upon the strict, atheistic doctrine of Visionary-Materialism, which venerated reason and scientific progress, the Mandate has dedicated every aspect of its society to the fanatical worship of a single deity: the Lord of the Light. This is not merely a state religion but the absolute core of its identity and governance. The @Mandate of Light perceives itself as the one true successor to the Endless Unity, framing its creation not as a rebellion but as an atonement for the "sins" of its predecessor's godless past. This foundational shift affects all strata of life, from law and culture to military doctrine and foreign policy. The state likely functions as a theocracy, where religious doctrine is inextricable from civil law, and orthodoxy is enforced with zealous conviction. This makes the @Mandate of Light a profoundly ideological power, viewing all conflicts through a lens of divine will and cosmic struggle.
Driven by terror at the overwhelming military might of the Chosen and their Flotilla of Ardent, Supreme Overseer @Antarof Gorseon , influenced by @Khiro Velenar , became convinced that victory required arcane power beyond conventional arms. This desperate pursuit led him to the extragalactic Octhari system and the Last Haruspex of Falachaon. Upon seizing the artifact, it dissolved into his being, forging him into a living @Auspex —the vessel and avatar of the dead god Falachaon. This union granted him profound psionic power and revealed the foundational lies upon which the modern Endless Unity was built, convincing him that the empire had strayed from its true, divinely-ordained path and that a new order, mirroring the purity of its earliest centuries, was necessary for survival.
Empowered by this revelation, @Antarof Gorseon returned to the galaxy a prophet. He began a radical reformation of the state, aiming to resurrect the original, faith-based principles he now believed were the Unity's true cornerstone. This direct assault on the established Visionary-Materialist ideology forced a confrontation with the Prime Council. In 999 AF, when faced with an ultimatum to recant or be excommunicated, @Antarof Gorseon chose betrayal. He orchestrated a devastating coup, annihilating the Council in the Silent Citadel. This act, revealed to the galaxy by @Tarvon Daamathor , ignited the Great Schism. Gorseon and his followers reorganized as the @Mandate of Light , a faction claiming to be the legitimate heir to the Unity's primordial truth, cementing a civil war against the "heretical" traditionalism of the old Unity.
The transformation from Endless Unity to @Mandate of Light required a total restructuring of society. The old meritocratic and scientific institutions were subordinated to the new theological framework. The "Visionary" aspect of the old state philosophy was twisted from long-term material planning into a form of religious destiny and millenarian belief. The "Materialist" component was outright rejected, replaced by a belief in the supreme power of the divine. Psionics, once studied as a biological tool, likely became a gift from the Lord of the Light or a measure of one's faith. This shift creates a culture of deep piety and conviction, but also one of intense suspicion of outsiders and heretics. The citizenry's purpose is redefined not as the advancement of civilization for its own sake, but for the glory of their deity. This fervor is the Mandate's greatest source of strength, allowing it to withstand immense hardship, but also its greatest weakness, blinding it to pragmatic concerns and alternative viewpoints.
The @Mandate of Light's governance rests upon two pillars of authority: the Hierocracy and the @Light's Sacred Inquisition. The Hierocracy serves as the ruling civilian body, functioning as the approximate equivalent of the old Endless Unity's Central Authority, administering civil law, resource distribution, and doctrinal policy across Mandate territory. In parallel, the @Light's Sacred Inquisition—commonly referred to simply as the Light's Inquisition or the Inquisition—operates as the regime's secret police and internal security apparatus, a bastardized descendant of the former All-Unity Security Committee that has traded ideological surveillance for theological enforcement.
Both of the aforementioned organizations are formally answerable to the Supreme Prophet @Antarof Gorseon, and while a nominal constitutional framework exists to ensure these bodies would serve any future ruler blessed by the Evenlord, this provision is regarded universally as a crisis-measure and legal fiction. The incumbent Supreme Prophet makes no secret of his intention to rule with the Evenlord's grace and providence until the Hour of Ascension, rendering the constitutional succession clause a hypothetical never intended for practical invocation.
The Hour of Ascension
Central to the Mandate's theology is the prophesied Hour of Ascension, sometimes also referred to as the Hour of Judgement. This is the destined moment when the Endless—affirmed as the Evenlord's chosen people—will shed their mortal forms and depart physical reality entirely. This is not merely political unification under a single banner, but literal transcendence into divine unity, where the faithful become indistinguishable from their divine overlord. The promise of collective divinity serves as the absolute foundation of Mandate faith; every law, war, and devotional act is oriented toward hastening or preparing for this apotheosis. Without the Hour of Ascension, the regime's sacrifices and conquests would be meaningless—its entire purpose is to ensure the Endless are worthy when the Light calls them to abandon material existence and merge with the divine.
All of the splinter-states of the former Endless Unity are considered enemies of the @Mandate of Light. The Mandate does not recognize the legitimacy of any other post-Unity successor state, and refers to them universally as traitors, rebels, and heretics.
This foreign policy is, admittedly, somewhat disconnected from the astropolitical reality of the galaxy during the Great Schism - as of 1029 AF, the @Mandate of Light controls only about 10-15% of what formerly constituted the Endless Unity, and blanketly regards the other 85-90% as some sort of disparate rebel cells, disregarding the very significant state and organizational power that some of its rivals possess.
The @Sagetton Contingency: A major apostate rival, a major military and ideological threat born from the materialist principles of the old Endless Unity. The single greatest rebel threat.
The @Coalition of Free Ragonia: A heretical secessionist movement deemed hypocritical and in need of pacification and re-integration.
The @Ioth Contingency: A staunch ally of the @Sagetton Contingency, and by extension, a key enemy within the anti-Mandate coalition.
The @Provisional Sectors Alliance: An ideological opponent ruled by power-hungry hypocrites. However, a mutual peace treaty ensures that the two sides are not actively at war - though both sides understand that this peace is a temporary one.
The @Ashen Remnant: A situational and power-hungry ally, brought together by @Khiro Velenar through their common history and an interest to see humanity be ascended to a divine status - though what this "divine status" to both factions is ultimately somewhat different (where @Sigreon Calath and @Malevanthor Abrenach wish to see the rise of the Lords of Aulor, @Antarof Gorseon serves only the enigmatic Lord of the Light).
