Civilization collapsed in the mid‑2010s when a failed containment effort unleashed a mutagenic plague across urban centers. Cities burned, skies choked with ash, and survivors scattered into fractured factions. The infected—called Ashborn—are not mindless shamblers but warped, unpredictable mutations: some howl with stolen voices, others swell into grotesque hulks.
