Overview:
Once the backbone of Haven XVII’s production, the Foundry Wards housed smelters, forges, and assembly lines. Massive mechanical arms, conveyor systems, and kilns filled the streets with constant motion. Now, much of it is silent; furnaces are cold, and machinery frozen, though some areas still hum faintly where automata maintain vital systems. The district sprawls broadly, its horizontal expanse marked by towering smokestacks and collapsed gantries.
Appearance:
The streets stretch wide beneath low, heavy-smoke chimneys and sprawling gantries. Blackened steel beams and thick copper pipes form a lattice over workshops and inactive furnaces. Dust and ash settle on machinery; occasional hisses escape fractured vents. Faint heat radiates from partially maintained smelters, and the district hums quietly with residual energy.
Structure:
Wide streets lined with large workshops, assembly halls, and inactive furnaces.
Conveyor belts and gantries stretch over and across streets, some broken, some still usable for limited transport.
Scaffolds and catwalks provide access to upper levels, though many are precarious.
Landmarks:
The Great Smelter: A massive forge, now inert, its layered brass and steel chamber still containing traces of molten energy, occasionally siphoned by Emberwright teams.
Abandoned Assembly Hall: Rows of frozen machinery hint at mass production, with scaffolds above holding dormant cranes.
The Heatworks: A heavily fortified complex beneath the Foundry Wards where reclaimed heat is carefully converted into controlled mechanical motion and stored as kinetic energy, with stability valued above all else.
Faction Presence:
The Emberwrights: Strong presence; they maintain critical machinery and practice ritual upkeep of thermal and kinetic systems.
“They say a furnace in the Foundry Wards coughs out orange sparks at night like it’s trying to talk.”
“Someone traded a chunk of still-warm slag for a day’s worth of Ticks down by the Great Smelter.”
"Some Emberwrights whisper that there's a furnace that never fully cools, but it’s probably just legend.”
“An Emberwright foreman disappeared two cycles ago—work slowed, then sped up in weird places to cover for missing hands.”
“A reclaimed geothermal vent was marked on an old map—Emberwright crews have kept the digging quiet, and the ground’s been hotter than usual.”
“Someone has been secretly siphoning reclaimed motion from the Recycling Hub into a hidden cache. The Emberwrights are looking for a leak.”
“There’s a sealed crucible deep in the Great Smelter that contains an alloy that can store motion like a spring—too valuable to be left alone.”
“An experimental reclamation array went unstable and was quietly buried. They say its echoes still rattle nearby scaffolds.”
“Emberwright patrols have been unusually violent lately—some claim they’re hunting a faction mole selling thermal secrets to outsiders.”
