The Skitter Warrens

Overview:
The Skitter Warrens sprawl across the outer ruins of Haven XVII, a jagged expanse of half-collapsed workshops, scavenged towers, and tangled scaffolds claimed by Vriksel-Qaunt. This region functions as a self-sustaining mechanical ecosystem, optimized for survival with minimal energy expenditure. Dozens—often hundreds—of mouse-sized Skitters move constantly through the Warrens, performing labor, repairs, and salvage in tight coordination. Though the layout appears chaotic, every structure and pathway serves a purpose within a carefully maintained network of motion and reuse.

Appearance:
Rusted cranes lean over fractured platforms, and broken conveyor tracks snake through piles of discarded mechanisms. Scaffolds twist upward at odd angles, patched with mismatched beams, reclaimed plating, and exposed gearwork. Small wind-driven rotors, pulley rigs, and spring-loaded assemblies jut from nearly every surface. The air carries a metallic tang, accompanied by the soft whirring, clicking, and ticking of countless Skitters darting between workstations. Above it all, Vriksel-Qaunt’s workshop perches atop reinforced girders, bristling with tools, cables, and motion-linkages.

Structure:

  • Narrow, irregular pathways formed from collapsed infrastructure, forcing careful movement.

  • Layered vertical construction, with platforms and scaffolds stacked unevenly over ruined workshops.

  • Distributed work zones connected by mechanical linkages rather than clear streets or corridors.

Landmarks:

  • Vriksel-Qaunt’s Workshop: A precarious vertical maze of scaffolds, platforms, and improvised machinery, where tools, spare parts, and half-finished constructs cover every surface. Linked by pulleys, springs, and counterweights, the Workshop functions as a single, energy-efficient machine, animated by the constant, coordinated motion of countless Skitters.

Faction Presence:

  • Independent (Vriksel-Qaunt): Absolute control through Skitter surveillance and localized mechanical dominance.
