Government

Most dragon settlements have government of some kind. A majority of these governments meet in together and discuss what is best for their people that year. They are also extremely socialist, as school, hospitals, dentist's, homes, and much more are paid for by the government. Many jobs that are needed to keep society running are paid for by the government. The government is for the dragons, by the dragons. The means of production is owned by the government, which is owned by the citizens. Everything needed to live is free in some way, which helps eliminate poverty and homelessness. When everyone has free access to what they need to be comfortable, they can focus more on things they enjoy.

Housing

You can either pay to live where you want, or you can be placed in a townhome. These are homes built and maintained by the town/government. There are also communal homes, which are more of a hotel-style building for elderly and disabled dragons who need help taking care of themselves or their space. Then there are churches, which sometimes keep spaces open for folks who need a place to stay for a few nights.

Communal Housing

The government runs communal housing that are for those who need help taking care of themselves, or just simply cannot live alone or without close neighbors. They look sort of like a hotel with climbing walls and spiral ramps to upper floors. The rooms get a variety of accommodations according to the individual. They get room service, and most have a restaurant located inside that serves those who live there. There are always staff available, and they are quite friendly and competent. When humans are around, they swap out the climbing walls for stairs and keep the ramps.

The outside to communal housing buildings tends to be of stone for longevity, but are also often painted with murals of bright colours. Inside tends to look quite nice, with cleaners taking shifts so there is always a few on the clock. Wood is used for the walls, doors, and other fixtures. The most common features in the rooms are bed pits, small kitchens, livingroom, and a bathroom with a toilet. There may be a small bathhouse inside or near the communal housing, and these are usually adapted for the disabled. The bathhouses for the communal housing is usually timed so that they operate during the hours their residents are actually using it, and take down time to clean and change shifts when they aren't.

Town Housing

These houses are built by and owned by the government, and are assigned to anyone who needs a home, but does not want to buy or rent where to live. The government has to deal with maintenance needs, meaning you go through them for repairs or remodeling. These homes are built in different lay outs to make them differ, and so different dragons and families can get what they need and not have the same room lay out each time. They are often made of wood and stone, and are often painted with very colourful and sparkly paints. They have prebuilt layouts with the ability to buy and build additions, or go through the paperwork to prove that you need an upgrade. The homes have a medieval look with some special touches only found with dragons. And depending on the location, the architecture may look different too.

Town housing tends to be made in neighborhoods, and are often sorted by dragon size. This allows for some neighborhoods to pack in more dragons if they are smaller, and take up more room if they are larger. Town planning is easier when the people have control of what gets put where.

Private Housing

Private Housing is contracted by individuals. They can be bought or rented out, but this is the one time you have to pay for a house. These are very uncommon, and are mostly houses on top of a business. The only reason someone might buy a house, is if it was built in a spot they really want to live in. Otherwise, everyone goes into the free housing system that is widely available.

Food

The government oversees the production of food to ensure it's safe to eat. It also takes care of shipping to other towns and cities, as well as running grocery stores. They also run restaurants and soup kitchens— though the free food is more for the dragons that are adjusting to city life or merely popping in, rather than having a homeless population that needs it. Food can be sold by individuals, but the government controls the prices of food to keep it fair for all. Free food is widely used by the common folk though, as many find it nice to just pop in for free meals when they are running low of funds until their next paycheck-- or just when they do not want to cook themselves and do not want to pay a restaurant.

There are also monthly rations for everyone that depends on the species they are. These are from grocery stores, and use the crystal covered ID cards and lots of paper to check who has already gotten theirs. Whatever grocery stores do not sell or give away in rations, they give back to the community via giving it to soup kitchens to cook up.

Soup/Public Kitchens

Soup kitchens/Public Kitchens are free and allow anyone to eat there. They only have a select variety of food each day, meaning you have limited choices each day. The food is often donations and unsold produce from the grocery store, and the cooks are mostly volunteers and hired head chefs. Anyone can eat there, free of charge. Public kitchens consist of a front dining area, and a rear kitchen and storage area. The dining area is made up of tables and seating sectioned off into body and party sizes.

Restaurants

Restaurants allow dragons to purchase cooked food. This is for those who cannot cook, do not want to cook, or any other reason they may have. Government run restaurants cannot discriminate, and must accommodate all food allergies and intolerance. They get their menus from the township, so no restaurants are selling all of the same food. There are also the ones run by individuals, and those have strict rules they must follow or else they are shut down.

Farms

Most farms are run by the local government. They make sure rules are being followed, the environment is not being destroyed, and the food is not contaminated. They pay the farmers and then sell their produce in government run grocery stores. Farmers are one of the backbones with society, and the farms often host multiple families at once due to how much work it takes to work the land. Sometimes, farmers will live in one big mansion instead of smaller, seperate homes. They will also provide rooms for all of their farm hands.

Farming is usually done in a way that is foreign to humans. They group things together based on how well they grow together, what they need, what they produce, and more. It ends up looking more like a food forest than a traditional human farm. These fields can produce much better food using less resources.

Postal Services

The government also runs postal services. They control most of the shipping to ensure safe and fair practices for all, as well as low prices. They run postal offices that serve every town that needs it, making sure that every settlement can get important mail and shipments.

Delivery Dragons are another back bone of society, and are paid very well. Because they are on the road so much, they are given special services that let them work comfortably. These include "trott-thru's" that act as quick food on the road for the dragons pulling carts. It allows them to order and get food without leaving their cart, and eat while walking by providing a special basket if one is needed. The basket is worn on the neck and lets the dragon eat from it like a trough.

School

School for young dragons and wild dragons who are trying to adjust to living in town is paid for. College and universities are paid for, and are ran by the government to ensure everyone gets a chance at greater education. Workers at the universities are paid by the government, as well as other teachers. Schools are not allowed to be run by private business, unless it is for something specific.

Schooling has three levels, level one being for nom-mature citizens, level two for adults who want to relearn what level one learns or wild adult dragons moving into town, and level three for adults who pass level one or two and want a higher education.

Level one schooling gets young dragons ready for adult life and helps them figure out what they want to do when they get out. They also learn what they need for level three.

Level two schooling teaches adults what one needs to help kids in school, and what they need for higher education as well. They can also help set up jobs.

Level three schooling is specialized to certain topics and jobs. It allows one to get their best experience out of it and go for as long as they want until persuing a job. It is for adults who have passed level one or two.

Hospitals and Medical Services

Hospitals and their expenses are covered by taxes. The government runs every branch of medical services, and charges nothing for basic, necessary, and life saving care. Dentists are covered in healthcare, as well as mental health services. These services are often made of stone with wooden accents to last longer. They also have magic lamps for constant light in some areas, hand pumps for water, toilet rooms, bathhouses, and restaurants inside them. They are very clean and run very well. Doctors and nurses are rarely in need, as plenty go on to become one. The staff are caring and competent.

Trading Posts

The government runs trading Posts, where dragons that live in the wild can come in and sell things like hides/furs, bones, meat, crops, magic, and anything else they have. These are traded in for money, which can be used on goods around town. The funds from these Trading Posts go straight to the government, and it helps pay for the posts and other free services. Goods from these posts are given to programs that need them, or are sold to businesses.
