Religion

There are two religions that dragons have. One follows the god of death, and the other follows the god of life. The god of death has a bigger following, while the other is rarely heard of.

Followers of Death

The followers of death are quite community based. They celebrate death as a chance to be reborn anew later, and follow strict death rituals. There are churches dedicated to gathering together and listening to sermons. Most of these churches are run by demi-gods or appointed priests.

Followers of death often follow death rituals where the deceased is buried in an important place— usually somewhere spirtually significant. They might also be burried facing either a church, or a river that leads to a town with a church if one is not available. These graveyards are seen as sacred places that should never be disturbed. Gravestones are uncommon, only used for the most important and beloved members of the community. Some may choose to burn the dead into ash and put it in a jar. Those jars are then often stuffed into plushies of the deceased, sprinkled or buried in graveyards or special places, or smoked with herbs so their families and friends can hold the spirit with them until they too pass.

The churches often work with the government to provide places to eat and stay, with many followers of death volunteering to work at soup kitchens or assisted living homes. They see it as their duty to help the less fortunate so everyone can be on the same level. It is part of their heavy community based views.

Followers of Death usually have no issues talking to others outside of their religion, but there is a chunk of them that are anti-human. They refuse to associate with humans, and will stay in dragon-only cities. There is even a cult that lives on an island that is isolated from all other villages. They have extreme views on community and their god. This cult does not let anyone other than dragons in.

Regular followers of death are quite nice to almost everyone they meet, the exception being knights. The followers will help out whoever needs it, and like doing jobs that help everyone out. They believe it is their job to help bring community together so no one is left behind.

Followers of Life

These dragons worship the god life instead of death. Their priests are either trained to be one, or have had visions of the god life. They are are more spiritual than the followers of death, often seeing the world as covered in spirit. They worship the sanctity of life, and how precious it is. While they do believe in reincarnation like the followers of death, they are less focused on it and more focused on what you can get out of this life.

Their temples are often built out of white stones to match their god, often having blue and pink accents. These temples are for debate and social gatherings. They use them most for discussing recent events and planning. Their temples are usually found in cities who have a decent population of life followers.

Followers of Life tend to keep to themselves. They won't mention their beliefs to others unless asked, and they rarely give out their names first. They like privacy just as much as they like community, so they often try to balance their personal and social lives. They tend to love debate, and find arguments to be quite exhilarating. They love to challenge conventional beliefs, and many of them study magic.
