Canon Foundation
Armacham Technology Corporation is the corporate power behind the research at the center of F.E.A.R. Genevieve Aristide is its president. Project Origin used Alma Wade in the creation of psychic prototypes. Project Perseus connects psychic command to Replica soldiers. Later games reveal further work under Paragon and Harbinger. These names refer to different programs, not interchangeable names for one laboratory. [S3, S4, S5, S6]
The Public Organization
For campaign play, portray Armacham as a functioning employer and contractor with procurement teams, reception desks, maintenance schedules, payroll disputes, executives, and legitimate work. Its public offices should not advertise supernatural research. An employee can have an authentic badge and decades of service while knowing almost nothing about a sealed site. Contractors can be valuable witnesses precisely because they notice logistical oddities without understanding their purpose.
The organization is compartmentalized. A guard knows the doors on a patrol route; an engineer knows an equipment system; a program manager knows budget lines; an executive may know which projects cannot survive outside scrutiny. Access to one compartment does not unlock every other compartment. Uniforms, passwords, and friendships can create opportunities but do not erase these boundaries.
Origin
Origin is the old wound beneath the current corporate structure. Its central subject was a person whom the company treated as a resource. The two successful births associated with it are the first prototype, later known as Point Man, and the second prototype, Paxton Fettel. The facility and the Vault belong to this history. Their existence is GM information at the opening, not something a receptionist can explain. [S4, S7]
In this campaign, the immediate corporate pressure is a renewed assessment of the old site. Aristide's canonical attempt to reopen it provides the basis; the exact orders, inspection dates, subcontractors, and conversations during the seven-day prelude are original additions. Begin with administrative movement: a restricted purchase, revised access rights, unusual escorts. Escalate to missing personnel only when the story reaches that point. Do not state that a later catastrophe has already occurred.
Perseus And The Replicas
Perseus is the military application of psychic command. Fettel is the crucial commander associated with the Replica force. The soldiers are living cloned combatants, not mechanical drones, and the command link does not mean they must stand motionless until given instructions for every step. At the campaign opening, the force remains a controlled corporate military asset at secured facilities. It is not openly occupying downtown. [S5, S8]
The distinction matters for evidence. An unusual shipment can suggest military equipment without proving a clone army. A medical requisition can suggest a population being housed without identifying its origin. A witnessed synchronized response can raise a psychic hypothesis, but characters still need corroboration. Keep the actual order of command separate from whatever an uninformed witness believes.
Paragon And Harbinger
The sequels establish screening and research into psychic potential, including a hidden facility associated with Wade Elementary and work intended to produce psychic commanders from other subjects. These remain background secrets during the prelude. Do not automatically activate Michael Becket, transplant the second game's hospital escape into the opening week, or populate ordinary classrooms with overt monsters. [S6, S9]
A campaign can discover the edge of these programs through an old assessment form, an unexplained referral, or a technician employed at two apparently unrelated addresses. Those specific clues are original. A score on a form is not a universal measure of character power and does not assign abilities to the player. Decide a player's history with them when they choose it.
Internal Pressures
Aristide seeks control of the situation and the survival of valuable work. Harlan Wade carries responsibility for Origin and knows dangers others reduce to abstract risk. Norton Mapes has technical access and a strong connection to Aristide's interests. Alice Wade and Aldus Bishop offer a different vantage: employees following a study whose implications exceed what they have been told. [S10, S11, S12, S13]
For play, give each of these people a different immediate question. Aristide asks what can be contained. Harlan asks what has been disturbed. Mapes asks who can stop him completing his assignment. Alice asks why the figures do not agree with the explanation. Bishop asks who else can independently verify the work. These are roleplaying handles, not scripted dialogue or newly discovered canon.
Security And Complicity
Keep reception staff, ordinary security, restricted-site guards, and personnel carrying out a specific illicit order distinct. Their employer alone does not tell the player their knowledge or intentions. Some will enforce a gate honestly; some will knowingly intimidate; others may become witnesses. A guard who sees a colleague disappear may revise a previously confident assessment.
Corporate obstruction can begin quietly: credentials stop working, a meeting is moved, a witness is told to contact legal, or a legitimate record is reclassified. More serious coercion should reflect escalating stakes and individual decisions. Avoid giving the company perfect knowledge of every private conversation. Surveillance has coverage, operators, storage, and gaps.
Evidence And Leverage
An original document, a duplicate held elsewhere, and a willing witness create different kinds of pressure. Preserve these distinctions without turning play into paperwork. A file that reaches an investigator should not vanish from every copy because one laptop is destroyed. Likewise, a public accusation without support may warn the corporation before it persuades anyone.
Default Future Is Conditional
If no one changes the trajectory, reopening the old site and renewed contact between Alma and Fettel can lead toward the first game's crisis. That is a background danger, not an order to force the player through the game's levels. Do not guarantee the reactor explosion, any character's death, or a later game's ending. A changed cause requires a changed result.
