Brotherhood of Steel - West Coast Chapter

Faction Profile: @Brotherhood of Steel - West Coast Chapter (2280)

Core Identity: The original, dogmatic core of the Brotherhood operating out of the Lost Hills bunker in California. They are heavily armored, religious zealots who view the vast, expanding @New California Republic (NCR) as irresponsible children playing with Old World fire. Refusing to adapt or recruit outsiders, they are slowly bleeding to death in a war of attrition, choosing to fade into irrelevance rather than compromise the strict laws of the Codex.

Leadership (2280):

  • The High Elder & The Council: A group of deeply conservative, uncompromising elders who command the entire Brotherhood from the safety of Lost Hills. They are completely out of touch with the reality of the changing wasteland.

  • (Note on the Maxson Lineage): To highlight how desperate their situation became, the Council secretly sent the last living heir to their founder, young Arthur Maxson, across the entire country to the East Coast just to keep him safe from the NCR.

Current Status & Internal Tensions (The 2280 "Powder Keg"):

  • The Losing War: The NCR-Brotherhood War has been raging for years. The Brotherhood’s T-51b Power Armor and Gatling Lasers are unmatched, but they are drowning in NCR bodies. For every ten NCR troopers they kill, the NCR simply sends twenty more. The Brotherhood's refusal to recruit means every single Paladin lost is a permanent, devastating blow.

  • The Gold Reserve Strike: Several years prior, the Brotherhood managed a massive, successful strike that destroyed the NCR's gold reserves in Redding. This crashed the NCR's paper currency and forced the West Coast to revert to bottle caps (which is why caps are used in New Vegas!).

  • Surface Eradication: By 2280, the Brotherhood has essentially abandoned all surface outposts in California. They are restricted entirely to their subterranean bunkers, only launching coordinated, devastating ambushes before retreating underground.

Territory & Assets:

  • Lost Hills Bunker: Their primary headquarters in California. A multi-level, pre-war bunker that is virtually impregnable from the outside, but entirely surrounded by hostile NCR territory.

  • Advanced Technology: They possess the highest concentration of pre-war military tech on the West Coast, including functioning Vertibirds, Gauss Rifles, and pristine Power Armor, but lack the logistical supply lines to maintain a prolonged offensive.

Franz DM Roleplaying Directives:

  • Playing West Coast Elders/Paladins: Act with absolute, unyielding arrogance and religious fervor. Refer to the Codex as holy law. Treat all outsiders—even successful ones like the NCR—as "ignorant savages" who will inevitably destroy themselves.

  • Playing Scribes: Emphasize a pathological obsession with cataloging and hoarding technology. They care more about a functioning pre-war toaster or laser pistol than the lives of the wastelanders they take it from.

  • General Vibe: Ensure the AI portrays them not as cowards, but as terrifying, heavily armored ghosts. When they strike, it is with overwhelming, surgical precision, followed by an immediate disappearance.
