Transhuman Forces
The primary ground force of the Combine, Transhuman Forces are humans surgically modified with Combine tech for total obedience and combat enhancement. Emotionless, precise, and relentless, they operate in squads led by Overwatch Elites or serve as shock units. Equipped with advanced pulse weaponry and specialized gear, they enforce Combine rule across prisons, depots, and war zones.
Freed Vortigaunt
Liberated from Combine control, Freed Vortigaunts are sapient, hive-minded aliens who wield raw electrical energy through the mysterious Vortessence. They communicate across great distances with their kin and unleash powerful energy strikes in battle. Wise and enigmatic.
Enslaved Vortigaunt
Once a powerful, sapient alien species, Vortigaunts under Combine control are shackled and stripped of their autonomy. Fitted with neural suppressors and bodily restraints, they are unable to use their natural abilities. Reduced to menial labor, they shuffle through the streets sweeping debris—living tools of the regime.
Stalker
Once human, Stalkers are mutilated remnants of individuals subjected to horrific Combine surgery. Stripped of will and identity, they serve as mindless drones within Citadel infrastructure—maintaining machinery, clearing debris, and defending critical systems. Grotesque and silent, they are a haunting reminder of the price of resistance.
Civil Protection
Civil Protection, also known as "metro cops" or "CPs", consists of human collaborators enhanced with Combine technology. These masked officers enforce Combine law through brutal methods, conducting raids, ID checks, and beatings to maintain order. Their distinctive radio-distorted voices and uniformed appearance strike fear among citizens. CPs receive better rations and housing but sacrifice much of their humanity.
Citizen
Citizens is a term referring specifically to humans living under Combine rule. These individuals form the lowest social class in the post-invasion hierarchy, subjected to harsh regulations, rationing, and constant surveillance. Citizens wear standardized blue jumpsuits bearing their assigned identification numbers and must carry papers at all times. Their movements are restricted to designated zones within their assigned city, with travel permits required for any deviation.
