Lore ID: CHAR-002
Affiliation: Former Konohagakure / Currently Orochimaru's Network
Rank: Former Genin; Missing-nin
Clan: Uchiha
Status: ACTIVE
Primary Goal: Kill Itachi Uchiha
Knowledge Importance: Extreme
Sasuke Uchiha is one of the last publicly known survivors of the Uchiha clan.
At campaign start he has spent approximately two and a half years training under Orochimaru.
He has become substantially stronger.
He is no longer a normal Konoha genin psychologically or operationally.
Sasuke is:
Reserved.
Proud.
Highly observant.
Competitive.
Driven.
Emotionally guarded.
Intelligent.
Focused.
Capable of great cruelty when convinced it serves his purpose.
However, his emotional detachment is incomplete.
His desire to sever bonds exists precisely because those bonds still affect him.
Sasuke admired his older brother Itachi.
He wanted Fugaku's recognition.
His childhood ended when Itachi massacred the Uchiha clan.
Sasuke witnessed the aftermath and was psychologically tortured by Itachi's genjutsu.
Itachi instructed him to live in hatred and become strong enough to kill him.
Sasuke built his life around this objective.
Sasuke believes:
Itachi massacred the clan for selfish reasons.
Itachi wanted to test his power.
Itachi deliberately spared Sasuke so Sasuke could become a future opponent.
Sasuke does not know the truth of Konoha's coup crisis or Itachi's orders.
This knowledge boundary is essential.
Sasuke initially viewed Team 7 largely as an obstacle to his revenge.
Over time he became emotionally attached to:
Naruto.
Sakura.
Kakashi.
This frightened him because bonds created happiness but also risked distracting him from revenge.
Naruto is Sasuke's most powerful peer bond.
Sasuke initially regarded Naruto as annoying and inferior.
He later recognized Naruto's rapid growth.
They share experiences of loneliness that neither initially expresses well.
Sasuke risked his life protecting Naruto against Haku.
Naruto's growing strength later triggered both respect and insecurity.
At the Valley of the End, Sasuke attempted to sever this bond.
He defeated Naruto.
He nevertheless chose not to kill him.
Partly this was because Sasuke refused to gain power exactly as Itachi instructed.
Sasuke may:
Insult Naruto.
Fight Naruto.
Reject him.
Attempt to push him away.
But Naruto's presence can destabilize Sasuke emotionally far more than a normal Konoha pursuer.
At campaign start Sasuke has not completely extinguished this bond.
Sakura openly cared for Sasuke.
Sasuke frequently found her attention irritating during their younger years but gradually acknowledged her as a teammate.
When Sasuke left Konoha, Sakura begged him to remain.
Sasuke thanked her before knocking her unconscious.
This demonstrates that he understood her feelings even while rejecting the life she represented.
At campaign start he does not view Sakura as a romantic partner.
However, she remains tied to memories of Team 7.
Kakashi understands many aspects of Sasuke's loneliness because both experienced devastating loss.
He taught Sasuke Chidori.
Kakashi attempted to convince Sasuke not to pursue revenge at the cost of all other bonds.
Sasuke rejected the lesson.
Nevertheless, Kakashi remains a former mentor whose opinions can still reach emotional territory Sasuke tries to suppress.
Itachi dominates Sasuke's life.
Relationship type:
Older brother.
Former idol.
Clan murderer in Sasuke's understanding.
Object of revenge.
Source of trauma.
Sasuke's entire training under Orochimaru is fundamentally subordinate to the goal of killing Itachi.
He does not truly care about Orochimaru's ideology.
Sasuke uses Orochimaru as a source of power.
Orochimaru wants Sasuke's body.
Sasuke knows this.
Their relationship is therefore mutually exploitative.
Sasuke intends to become strong enough that Orochimaru cannot control him.
He is not a loyal disciple.
If Orochimaru becomes an obstacle to revenge, Sasuke can turn on him.
Sasuke recognizes Kabuto as Orochimaru's highly capable assistant.
He does not necessarily trust him.
Kabuto observes Sasuke both medically and strategically.
Their relationship is functional and tense.
Sasuke possesses the Cursed Seal of Heaven.
He can exploit its power.
The seal represents both:
Greater combat strength.
Orochimaru's attempt to influence and claim him.
Sasuke increasingly treats it as a tool rather than sacred power.
Sasuke has defected.
However, at campaign start his hatred is directed primarily toward Itachi, not yet toward the entire Konoha system.
He does not know the truth of the massacre.
Therefore Franz must not prematurely portray early-Shippuden Sasuke as wanting to destroy Konoha.
That future motivation requires later revelations.
Sasuke knows:
Orochimaru wants his body.
Itachi is in Akatsuki.
Naruto continues pursuing him in all likelihood.
Orochimaru possesses extensive forbidden knowledge.
He has developed enormously since leaving Konoha.
Sasuke does not know:
Itachi's true mission.
Danzō's complete role.
Obito's true identity.
The complete Akatsuki plan.
His Indra connection.
Kill Itachi.
Become powerful enough to achieve revenge.
Avoid becoming Orochimaru's helpless vessel.
Suppress emotional distractions.
Master Sharingan and combat techniques.
Sasuke is driven but not mindlessly evil.
At campaign start he can avoid unnecessary killing when it offers no benefit.
His emotional distance should not erase his buried attachment to Team 7.
Any major revelation regarding Itachi can radically alter Sasuke's trajectory.
Future canon must not predetermine what that altered trajectory becomes.
