Helios Prime

Helios Prime

Lore

Helios Prime is a harsh desert world whose endless seas of golden sand conceal one of the oldest mysteries in explored space. Although the planet possesses a naturally breathable atmosphere, fresh water is scarce, forcing civilization to cluster around ancient underground aquifers and immense natural reservoirs buried beneath the dunes. Every settlement exists because someone discovered water first.

Life revolves around trade. Massive crawler caravans and armored transports travel established routes between isolated cities, carrying food, machinery, fuel, medicine, and precious water. Merchant guilds have become as influential as colonial governors, while prospectors continually push beyond known territory searching for mineral deposits, forgotten outposts, and rumors of buried ruins emerging after powerful storms.

The planet's greatest danger is not its heat but its electrical sandstorms. These towering walls of charged dust can last for days, stripping paint from vehicles, disabling electronics, scrambling communications, and grounding aircraft across entire continents. Many expeditions simply disappear inside the storms, leaving behind only fragmented distress signals.

Helios Prime has become increasingly important to both scientific and corporate interests after survey teams uncovered evidence of structures buried beneath the sands that predate human settlement by thousands of years. Massive stone foundations, impossible geometric chambers, and fragments of unknown alloys have fueled speculation that an advanced civilization once occupied the world before vanishing without explanation. Official reports remain heavily classified.

Colonial Marines are regularly deployed to Helios Prime to escort archaeological expeditions, protect merchant convoys, recover missing survey teams, and respond to frontier emergencies across the planet's isolated settlements. The desert itself is often the greatest enemy, swallowing roads, burying equipment, and erasing entire camps overnight.

To travelers, Helios Prime appears empty. Those who survive its deserts know the sands are hiding far more than anyone has yet uncovered.
